The thick dark green, savoyed glossy succulent leaves resemble spinach and have a mild Swiss chard taste, and lovely deep red stems. Although called Malabar Spinach it is not actually related to the Spinach family. Perfect used in salads or stir frys. Will easily reach 2 m and beyond if it has sufficient support to climb along. ## Features - Requires a growing position with humus-rich well drained soil and full sun. The variety requires warmth to both germinate and will not start growing well until summer arrives with long hot days. - Sow Mid to late spring in well drained seed compost (21 c+). There is no advantage to sowing earlier. Do not move seedlings outside until the weather warms and they have been fully aclimatised. - Thrives under glass for the most tender leaves or in a sheltered site in full sun. Plants are best around 30 cm apart and need a good strong frame / netting to climb up. - Professional DEFRA licenced Quality Seed Supply only - Minimal packaging - Ziplock labelled bags - Instructions not attached - See details provided above for cultivation advice. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B08X6RZ7HC | | Best Sellers Rank | 31,755 in Garden ( See Top 100 in Garden ) 534 in Vegetable Seeds | | Brand | Premier Seeds Direct | | Brand Name | Premier Seeds Direct | | Colour | Green,Red | | Customer Reviews | 4.0 out of 5 stars 64 Reviews | | Expected Plant Height Unit | 30 Centimetres | | Expected Planting Period | Spring | | Expected blooming period | spring, summer | | Indoor Outdoor Usage | Outdoor | | Indoor/Outdoor usage | Outdoor | | Manufacturer | Premier Seeds Direct | | Material Features | Natural | | Material feature | Natural | | Moisture Needs | Moderate Watering | | Number of Pieces | 20 | | Plant or Animal Product Type | Spinach, Chard | | Product Care Instructions | Well Drained Soil | | Sunlight Exposure | Full Sun | | Sunlight exposure | Full Sun | | Unit Count | 10.0 count | | expected blooming period | spring, summer | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Premier Seeds Direct - **Colour:** Green,Red - **Expected blooming period:** spring, summer - **Expected plant height:** 30 Centimetres - **Expected planting period:** Spring - **Indoor/Outdoor usage:** Outdoor - **Material feature:** Natural - **Product care instructions:** Well Drained Soil - **Sunlight exposure:** Full Sun - **Unit count:** 10.0 count ## Images ![PREMIER SEEDS DIRECT - RED Malabar Spinach - 20 Seeds (BASELLA RUBRA) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/712x5RvJLeL.jpg) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.pa/products/315411795-premier-seeds-direct-red-malabar-spinach-20-seeds-basella-rubra](https://www.desertcart.com.pa/products/315411795-premier-seeds-direct-red-malabar-spinach-20-seeds-basella-rubra) --- *Product available on Desertcart Panama* *Store origin: PA* *Last updated: 2026-10-12*
