Help kids ace science with this revolutionary study guide just for middle school students from the brains behind Brain Quest . Everything You Need to Ace Science ... takes readers from scientific investigation and the engineering design process to the Periodic Table; forces and motion; forms of energy; outer space and the solar system; to earth sciences, biology, body systems, ecology, and more. The Big Fat Notebooks™ series is built on a simple and irresistible conceit―borrowing the notes from the smartest kid in class. There are five books in all, and each is the only book you need for each main subject taught in middle school: Math, Science, American History, English Language Arts, and World History. Inside the reader will find every subject’s key concepts, easily digested and summarized: Critical ideas highlighted in neon colors. Definitions explained. Doodles that illuminate tricky concepts in marker. Mnemonics for memorable shortcuts. And quizzes to recap it all. The Big Fat Notebooks meet Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and state history standards, and are vetted by National and State Teacher of the Year Award-winning teachers. They make learning fun, and are the perfect next step for every kid who grew up on Brain Quest . Review: Chock-full of fascinating scientific facts in an easily digestible format! - I loved reading through this book. It features an attractive, approachable learning format with concise information and fun doodles. I'm an adult, but I learned a lot, and I think most adults will learn something from this book, too. The book covers a wide range of topics, from Newton's Laws of Motion to Life Science and even outer space. My favorite chapter was about light and sound waves. Did you know that electromagnetic waves range from thousands of meters to a trillionth of a meter long? And the only visible light that humans can perceive with the naked eye ranges from 700-400 nanometers (a nanometer being a billionth of a meter). These make up the colors of the rainbow. I did find a couple of small errors. 1) The book uses "its" instead of "it's" in one sentence. 2) The book states at one point that UV waves have a smaller frequency than visible light, which isn't true. They are shorter in wavelength, so they necessarily have to have a larger frequency. These aren't a huge deal, but the fact that they're there casts slight doubt upon the accuracy of the other information in the book. But otherwise, the information seems solid, and the times I've looked up information from the book on the internet, it appears to be accurate overall. Review: Great MS Science Companion - What a great companion to a middle school homeschool/regular school curriculum. Love the kid-friendly format & how basic “notes” seem to match current state standards! Would recommend for any student who has not yet learned to take notes. This book models that skill for them & highlights key information. Also, this covers the several grades of Middle School, so you get longevity for your money! 😊

Great reference book at great value
Been having a hard time looking for a specific reference book for my 5th Grader's Science learning at local Middle school. The Science subject this year, however, is somewhat challenging - most of students are being pressurized to expand their own vocabulary bank (jargons and terminologies in terms of general physics, chemistry, astrology and biology); some of them also struggle with visualizing the 'concept' that is introduced by the teacher; the biggest problem is that they need to cultivate and continuously strengthen a series of study habits, including chapter preview prior to the class, even given the fact that no officially assigned textbook to them yet. Therefore, in my opinion, this Science Notebook serves the purpose by bridging the gap in this dilemma - which is to introduce and highlight the key points of each sub-subject of ‘Science’ and guide students to do further research based on each chapter before and after the class. I would recommend this Science book for 5th Graders, however please also extend after-school research on each Science topic on a daily basis, 10-20 minutes would be perfect.

Great book
This book is very creative and interesting and really explains things in a way that I can have great discussions with my grandkids about each page. I'm learning a ton, since I was not into science and feel like I can actually ask good questions to get them thinking as we read this book. I have them read it to me and then discuss. There are questions at the end of each section and answers are on the next page. It explains each process, step by step, is colorful, easy to read and has a GREAT overview of everyday science vocabulary. I highly recommend this book to those who want a good basis for scientific process and vocabulary. It covers an overview of all the different science categories, scientific investigations from ecology, outer space, engineering to human biology and more. It doesn't go into detail, but wets the appetite with good explanations of each type of science.

Great for studying!
This book had great quality and covered most of the topics in my child's study guide. When I got the book though, it was ripped in the back. otherwise, perfect for school or home.

Very helpful
We got this book for my kid going into 6th grade. She loved it because of how colorful it was and how the topics were explained so that they made sense. There are key topics covered in the book. Highly recommend for the good price.

Great book
I think this would be something good for adults to read also who would like a short summary on a subject without going into a lot of detail.

Terrific Study Resource
This book provides a great overview of general science content. I have been encouraging the use of this book by adult learners who are studying to take elementary education science content exams. While this is not a specific test prep resource, the way content is organized and summarized provides a solid review of information to jog their memory and refresh their skills.

Happy with Quality
I ordered this book expecting a typical used copy, but it arrived looking absolutely brand new—no creases, no markings, not even a hint of wear. It was in such pristine condition, I had to double-check it was actually listed as “used”! My middle schooler has the full collection and was thrilled to add this one. He reads and refers to it often, and it’s quickly become one of his favourite.
