Grace notes in a sliceable fresh truffle
Truffles may be an aquired taste for some. It's unique "umami" overtones for me is not something I'd do every day — but more a case of not too much of a good thing; what's not to like? Truffles add a relatively subtle layer to lighter flavours, but more in its earthy nose as you breathe out while eating than adding to taste in the affordable quantities we live with outside regions where truffles are more commonplace. This is the very spirit of "umami". Being a mushroom it will decay sooner rather than later; the gentle treatment offered by Monica's is said to give you 7 days after opening. I hope to extend this to up to 3 weeks or a month with a half teaspoon of spirit vinegar as I would hate to eat. such a high dosage I go off it for a while. The 4 little black gems have their skin intact and are soft enough to slice or dice easily. Generally this Monica option suits me because I get relatively fresh truffles without processing. I intend to use this batch principally to "spritzt" up olive and other oils for salads and for light frying. Chopped up and mashed to add to 250 ml of oil in a small sprayer jar that stands in several changes of boiling water. The resulting infusion is rather cheaper than buying a producers truffle oil and a bit richer on flavour All told I'm at this stage really quite delighted with the option offered by Monikas and the pricing is also attractive. Poor quality, almost tasteless
This only looks like a Truffle and that is where it stops. There is no overpowering smell and taste a proper Truffle should have. The price has indicated that something is not quite right.

Would I buy it again?
Not fond of this item, the taste isn’t as good as I expected. Smells different too, it’s not as good as i remember. No, I wouldn’t buy again.
