Review: Good NAS for experienced users. Running problem free for nearly 3 years now. - I've had this NAS for nearly 3 years now and have not experienced any problems. I have 2 other QNAP NASs and I like their web interface on the device for setup/configuration. QNAP support, at least as of a couple years ago, was quite helpful. They gave me good instructions to migrate over drives from an old QNAP NAS that had failed, after many years of use, and then upgrade all the drives to new, higher capacity drives, without losing any data. This is probably not a NAS for novice computer users, as there is a lot of stuff in the web interface and it's probably geared more toward small businesses. However, this is a good NAS for experienced/power users at home as well. QNAP also has an app for accessing files on you NAS remotely, when not home.
Review: Great product! Easy to Use! - Of course to use the QNAP TS-473A fully, one needs to upgrade it More RAM and a graphics card for virtualization and transcoding are pretty much required for anything beyond using this for a simple NAS The 2.5GBe should give me great speeds to use network files that are reasonably close to an external HDD I can always add another 2.5GBe to my computer and trunk (combine) them for up to 5GBe No room left for 10GBe after the graphics card upgrade So that's stinks I had a QNAP and left for a while But it's just so easy for an intermediate user who understands some basic linux file permissions and management

## Features

- Both 2.5GbE ports are backwards compatible with 1GbE/ 100MbE speeds. Up to 5 Gbps transfer speeds can be achieved by using port trunking.
- Add extra functionality with PCIe cards, including 10GbE ports, SSD caching, extra USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, wireless networking, or Fibre Channel.
- Supports entry-level NVIDIA graphics cards for video processing or GPU-passthrough to VMs.
- Features two M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD slots for Qtier Technology and SSD Caching enable constant storage optimization.
- 2 x 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Port (2.5G/1G/100M); 3 x Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone added a gpu, I can't find any instructions on how?!**
A: You must use a GPU that is on the compatible list from QNAP. The GPU must not have any external power connectors as the PSU does not have enough current to support most GPUs. The only recommended GPUs are the MSi GTX1650 4GT LP OC, the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce GTX 1650 LP or the ASUS PH-GTX1050TI-4G if you are using it for hardware transcoding.

You need to open up the NAS case and install the GPU in one of the PCi slots. See page 33 of the User Guide.

**Q: what kind of ram fdoes this take?**
A: I used the following without any problems.
TEAMGROUP Elite DDR4 64GB Kit (2 x 32GB) 2666MHz PC4-21300 CL19 Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.2V SODIMM 260-Pin Laptop Notebook PC Computer Memory Module Ram Upgrade - TED464G2666C19DC-S01

**Q: Is one of the bays special in any way (used for the checksum disk in the raid)?**
A: I should clarify my earlier statement. The checksum is actually spread across all the drives. RAID 5 checksum data increases drive requirements by one drive and RAID 6 increases drive requirements by two drives. So if a drive fails, the checksum is used to restore the data.

**Q: how loud is it - is there a lot of noise during normal operation?**
A: Mine sits about 4 feet from my right ear. I use SSD drives so it's extremely quiet. I had put an older hard drive in and it was not acceptable to me. So your answer might depend on what drives and how many you put in.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This NAS Rocks!!!
*by D***D on June 18, 2022*

Love being able to utilize ZFS, so glad QNAP supports this great file system. I could not be happier with this purchase. I ran a Drobo 5N for over a decade (it still works) and it served it's purpose with no problems but compared to QNAP's interface, Drobo is a Toy, even though I liked Drobo's compact design, running your HDDs like Network Blades (Vertically) is a much better design to manage Heat...IMO QNAP is by far the Best NAS out there...sorry Synology... Don't let the fact that QNAP is more Technical than other NAS units, it was very easy to setup and management is a breeze. My M.2s idle at 29c average and the HDDs around the same, the M.2s never gets above 33c and HDDs 38c is the highest I have ever seen them run. The unit runs quiet, it is a well designed case... I Highly Recommend this NAS or any QNAP NAS that runs QuTS Hero O/S (ZFS)
