Holding it in the palm of your hand, leash around wrist, turn your wrist in a circular motion and feel for the resistance. Stick with it - the resistance. That tells you you're doing it right - and the lights will light up stronger and more colors. Don't expect it to do the work for you. If you lose the resistance you'll soon lose the spin and have to start all over again. Now I can do up to 2.5 minutes with my right hand (before I get tired) and over a minute with my left. I got this to strengthen my wrist and forearm to help counteract the elbow pain I was getting from playing guitar. Sometimes, when winding it up in the direction of the arrows, there doesn't seem to be any resistance, and you might think it's broken. Just spin it a few times in the opposite direction. Then try it again the regular way. This always works for me.

People seem to love these, but unless you have strong, thumbs don’t bother buying them. You need two strong thumbs to wind it up so you can use it. I have tried every trick in the book to wind it some other way, but it doesn’t work. I’ve given it away to a neighbor who is much younger and stronger than I am. It did nothing for me, but frustrate me.
