Vornado TRANSOM Window Fan with 4 Speeds, Remote Control, Reversible Exhaust Mode, Weather Resistant Case, Whole Room, Ice White

So far, I've been very impressed with the fan (non-Alexa version). It does require a little bit of DIY to adjust for an excellent fit but that is to be expected. I did find that adding some 1" Black expandable foam weather-stripping helped with getting a great seal across the bottom of the window and the top of the unit. I did have to cut (with a bandsaw) one of the soft foam pieces to get the best fit possible which also was not a big deal. I was able to leave my window screen in place which helps keep bugs out while the unit is running or not. The remote works fine and the unit is very quiet. The build quality is very good. Some thoughts: This only blows outside air in or inside air out. It is NOT a window air conditioner. It also does not true "shutters" when turned off and therefore it likely should be removed during winter. I use this for my unheated garage to keep the heat rise down in this insulated space without running my mini-split when I'm not working in my garage. It uses less than 50W on high so I will leave it running all the time during spring/summer/fall with no issues expected. With a five year warranty, I expect the fan to last a good while. I would also highly recommend that you install window slide locks on both sides of the opened window to prevent bad guys from just opening the unlocked window and gaining access to your home.

Easily installed (inside the screen) with plastic baffles of varying sizes that slip into the window well next to the unit for a custom fit. While not heavy, it's thoughtfully designed with molded hand-holds on either side right where you need them, so you can easily maneuver this in and out of the window. At only a few inches high, you can put a brace in the remaining window to give you more security. It looks nice, blocks much less light than a box fan or an air con, and pushes a strong corridor of air straight ahead - there are no directional louvers. Quiet as well, though not quite as quiet as a Dreo tower fan. It switches from intake to outflow (I believe the whole fan head rotates inside) in seconds. The cord is a decent length! The thermostat is a nice feature (?), but I would absolutely rather have what it's missing - a timer. It's great to have fresh air rather than that from a stale, noisy, heavy air con (and a nice option to central air on milder days). The internet thinks that using the exhaust can help pull humidity out of a room, and we'll try that on the next muggy day. The panel controls are simple; the remote is small, slippery and utterly losable (a small piece of velcro is included to help). We're giving this a five but would I mentally make it a 4.7 for lacking a timer. I'd imagine the Alexa-enabled one might have resolved this, but we thought +$30 extra was too much for that feature. So, just a few days in I recommend this fan. In my book it makes up for being a little more expensive by not being ugly or burdensome, and for being thoughtfully designed and quietly powerful. This has a variety of reviews, but Vornado actually printed inside the box "if anything's wrong, we'll make it right." - which is encouraging. It's still very new - we'll update review if anything changes, or it becomes noisy.

The fan, the airflow, the touch controls, the gentle noise level, nake it a five star fan. But the installation is kinda kludged with hard foam blocks, and it is made to fit of a traditional "post-war" flat window sill. Unfortunately, most windows in the last 20-30 years are made with "hospital sills" where there is an inch tall metal overlap to seal out leaks. There are no more flat sills. So, to securely install this fan you will need to add blocking under it, to prevent it from tumbling out. And blocking on the sides, to close off the width. (The supplied side blocks are hard and offer limited sizes.) The hard part of this is figuring out a simple, secure, and aesthetic way to do this if you don't have a wood shop. But after you get it properly secured--which IS possible--it does an elegant job of sitting in place, without obstructing the view, and nicely ventilating the room. Air in or out, and a tiny little remote control as well. I suppose a good clean installation is the bane of all window fans, and they've tried a clean approach. Knowing the limits, I'd still do it again. They just need to make it vlear up front: "Some clever installation or assembly may be required."

This has increased the fresh air being drawn in by the a/c units 2x and increased the efficiency as well as exhausting any odors, I keep it running on the number 2 setting with full exhaust mode. I should have bought one of these years ago. Installing took all of 8 minutes including the side seals for the window and it tucked right in between the window screen outside, so I didn't have to do anything but raise the window, place the unit, put in the seals and plug it in, set for exhaust, 72°, level 2 fan speed and its automatic, quiet, and highly effective and exhaust...great product especially if you fry allot of foods too. I installed a cat perch in front, my cats like the little breeze it produces to exhaust the air.

I had the previous model of this fan and needed another for my office. Definitely some improvements I really like how there are controls for multiple speeds. The remote is a nice touch although a bit finicky. Included foam material is great, was able to get the perfect fit. All in all I think it’s worth it just to be able to hold out on installing the AC as long as possible. Limited by how humid it is or windy outside. I live in a fairly windy area so it works but humid days are no match.

Blown away with the quality. I have an inside room that isn’t vented with heating or cooling and doesn’t have a window to the outside. However it has a high “window” opening for air to flow (no glass, just a finished hole). For the last two years, I’ve used an inexpensive window fan and it worked okay, but nothing special. Mostly moved air around so it wasn’t musty in there. One of the fans on it stopped working, and another fan I have is a Vornado, so I thought I’d try this instead. Wow. There’s no comparison. Seriously. In about 24 hours, the Vornado has actually made it measurably cooler in the inner room. My only regret is not getting this fan in the first place. The settings on it are all useful. It’s handy to have the remote. It is quiet even on the highest setting. I’m surprised how much I like having a temperature gauge on the fan and it works incredibly well. Highest recommendation.

Minor design or manufacturing issue which appears to be somewhat common based on the reviews... I received mine and I thought it was going to be perfect. Typical vertical vinyl window and this would fit perfectly in the opening. Anyway, I got it and turned it on to test before installing. One direction, it worked perfectly. Tried reversing the flow and TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK. This wasn't what I wanted. But because it seemed like the best option based on the window fans I found, I wanted to investigate a bit further. Upon disassembly and inspection, there is a bar (picture #1) on the rotating cage that hits the squirrel cage fan and makes the noise. For mine, it only does it in one direction. So to fix, I did the following: 1. Unplug the unit. Remove the 8 rubber caps and screws from the end caps. Remove the two end caps. 2. Remove the 6 screws on the bottom of the glossy white front panel and gently lift off the panel. 3. Remove the 6 exposed screws at the bottom of the unit and the 6 screws at the top (between the fins) 4. Gently separate the front and back. 5. Find the bar with a screw on both sides, you may need to rotate the fan assembly to bring it into view. 6. That bar is what is hitting, so I added a small washer on both sides to give it a bit more clearance. (Picture #2) 7. Spin the fan to make sure it's not hitting. Rotate the assembly and test again. Make sure you don't hear anything hit when spinning the fan by hand or rotating the assembly. 8. Reassemble and it should stop ticking. Power on and test both directions (in and out) Other thoughts: 1. The foam on the bottom was too wide for my window where I wanted to position it with the screen still installed. I sliced it so that it fit the vinyl frame of the window. (Picture #3) That allowed it to fit snugly into the window instead of being raised against it. Also, this bottom foam should extend the full width of the fan, not stopping an inch short of each side. While this wasn't much of an issue after slicing the foam so it'd fit into the window, it still leaves a bit of a gap. 2. The foam blocks are not ideal, but adding some double-stick tape between the blocks (once I figured out exactly how many to use) in order to keep them together seemed to help. 3. This doesn't NOT cut off the air when off. On a hot day, you'll feel hot air coming in and on a cool day, you'll find cool air coming in. I did make an insulation cover that attaches with velcro to help with this issue, but now it's starting to sound like I need a new hobby... Anyway, I liked the fan and it works well for me, but they should probably fix their manufacturing issue. The plastic bar tolerance should be improved so you don't have the clicking issue. Mine seemed slightly warped, but if the bar was prone to warping, additional clearance should have been added so it doesn't click during normal usage out of the box. Maybe it was just mine, but I saw this comment in other reviews. With some work, I got it fitting perfectly, but it has to be removed due to air leakage at certain times of the year. Remote was great and everything else seems fine. Understand that there are a limited number of blocks included, so it'll only fit windows of a certain width. There is NO screen on it, so I left my screen in, thus the installation issue. I fixed that by cutting the foam at the bottom (Picture #3) so that it'd sit in the window without taking out the screen. Good luck! It's been removed for the winter as it just lets in way too much cold air. It may not be as simple as advertised, but it's definitely workable if you want to spend the time fitting it and hopefully you don't have the clicking issue I did.

Product Review: Vornado TRANSOM Window Fan with 4 Speeds, Remote Control (Non-Alexa) I purchased the Tornado primarily for its product specs on Air Circulation. Amongst other window fans on Amazon, the Vornado specs clearly out circulated most of the competition. However, this is not the case. For 30 years, my family has used window fans throughout the year - many of them running most days of the year. Many of these fans are the dual fan blade (intake/exhaust) fans that tend to last anywhere from 10-15 years. When it came time to purchase a new fan, I found the dual window fans have increased drastically in price, the Vornado circulated far more air than most of these fans, and most customers indicated that it was extremely quiet; so, I took a chance and purchased something "different" than what I had trusted over the years. To the pros and the cons: The Pros: 1. It really has a great look in the window, both inside and outside. It is almost unnoticeable from the outside of our house, which is aesthetically pleasing. 2. For a window fan, it is very quiet. It is far more quiet than the dual blade window fans. The controls are really easy to use - even the controller is extremely intuitive. 3. While it is not recommended, I think I could leave this fan in my window all year, and it would not be bothered by the rain or snow because of its low profile within the window frame (just my opinion). 4. The foam pads to fill in the gaps between the fan and the frame of the window are high quality, and should last for many years. Cons: 1. Unfortunately, the highest fan speed moves about half the air as a dual blade window fan. The specs just don't line up with the real performance of the fan - the dual blade window fans are ostensibly more powerful. The Vornado's highest setting is a 4, and the forced air is really only noticeable from about 6 feet away or closer. 2. The Vornado on its intake setting (into the house) pushes the air slightly downward rather than straight out or up. It is anecdotal, but I wonder if it has to do with their fan design, and their intention to move air throughout the room. 3. Given number 1 and 2 - this fan does not move the air well around our room, and it takes noticeably longer to cool our room compared to the other rooms that use our dual fan blades. In summary: I have mixed thoughts about this fan - I really like the controls, and the quality and the look of the fan, but I purchased it because I would like it to cool our room at least if not more than our previous fans or the other fans in other rooms of the house. The Vornado needs to "push" far more air from the outside than it currently does. If you want a window fan for good looks and good controls buy this fan. If you want the fan for good air movement to cool your room, my suggestion would be to pass for another brand of window fans.

Awesome intake/exhaust fan that works really well. It is smaller than the other fans. Temperature control is a hit and miss but good enough.

This a wonderful window fan. It is self contained and weatherproof and as such it it remains in my window for the spring-summer-fall duration. It can pull air out of your room or bring air in and has a temperature control for when things cool off at night. The remote works well and the unit moves a large volume of air quietly. I have had this unit for just over three years and found it utterly reliable. The complete lit comes with solid foam inserts for sealing to a window. In my case they had included two 1" inserts and it fir a 27" window perfectly. Install takes a few minutes. Highly recommended.

I love this unit! Very light white noise, super efficient at bringing in cool night or morning air or exhausting the heat of the day from a room that has poor air circulation. I run it 24/7. I will likely get another one. Sure beats the cost of running an air conditioner. On cool air intake, you get a wide strong flow of fresh air even on low setting. I haven’t used the remote but the digital panel is simple to use.
