Anyone using the 15 foot for tethered photography? If so, what do you think?

Yes, I'm a professional advertising photographer of 32 years with national and international clients. Shooting with a Nikon D850 to an Apple Macbook Pro 17". I've been moaning every time I've had to buy a Tether Tools 15' cable to tether my shooting and having to pay around $60. Couldn't believe the cost and I don't mind spending money on equipment. I bought one of these based on reviews and have been using it for about 1.5 months. It's GREAT! Heavier duty than the Tether Tools cable USB-A end snaps into the computer better, transfer is just as fast, at least, and images are tack-sharp. Could not be happier. Bought a second as a back up after testing out the first one. In my opinion it is a better cable for 1/7th the price.

Has anyone tried these on the new Galaxy S5?

It should work on the S5, I bought 2 for the Note 3. Dont buy this one thou its very slow charging, but the Amazon basic version, it works perfect. I've bought 2 of this one and 2 of the Amazon Basic and the cable maters was a total waste.

Does the 6 foot cable charge at full speed or is it slower than the 3 foot cable?

YES IT WILL CHARGE ABOUT THE SAME AS A 3 FT CABLE

Are they backward compatible with desktop USB 2.0 ports (just slower)? Some reviews imply yes, but the product description doesn't exactly say so.

USB 3.0 usually refers to the "device end" of the cable. You can get a good idea of the specs at the following Wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_3.0 In general, the PC end is an "A" type connector and may or not be "SuperSpeed" (blue insert indicates SuperSpeed whether it's the plug or a port). The "device" (plugs into the phone/tablet/drive) is a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed connector. If you have an older USB "Micro" connector from an older device, you'll notice part of the 3.0 connector is a twin. This info will be helpful for the times you've lost access to your 3.0 cable and only need to recharge your device (you'll get a nag screen abt data speeds, but I'd only advice using it as a last resort charge cable). The additional connection (not a separate end, they're a single connector) is what gives you the higher data throughput.
