Question 1

Does this grind spices

Accepted Answer

Yes! It is perfect for spices. I actually bought this model so that I could grind individual batches of different spice mixes in separate cups. It does a great job. What it is not suited for is wet grinding.

Question 2

Does this function as both a coffee grinder AND spice grinder?

Accepted Answer

This is the spice grinder attachment for a KitchenAid coffee grinder, sold separately. This does not work on its own. The differences between this attachment & the one that comes with the coffee grinder base model are as follows: the blades are concave so they reach the bottom of the canister for a finer grind (the others are straight so they sit a bit off the bottom for a more coarse grind), the lid comes with a shaker attachment to dispense fine powders & flakes, this unit is slightly shorter & holds less volume than the coffee attachment.

Question 3

I bought the onyx black bcg111ob do i need to buy the accessory kit in order to grind herbs and spices? or can i just use what's in the box?

Accepted Answer

You can, but you shouldn't if you plan to grind spices a lot. You don't want the flavors mingling. The coffee grinder should be just for coffee.

Question 4

Will this spice grinder be compatible with grinder model bcg1110b?

Accepted Answer

I have the KitchenAid coffee grinder model BCG111ER, and the spice grinders are compatible with this (I purchased the two separately). Looking at images on the internet, I can't see any detectable difference between the two grinder models (i.e., BCG111ER and BCG111OB) so I think the latter model should most likely be compatible with the spice grinding set, but I do wonder what the difference in model numbers indicates.
