Amcrest UltraHD 4K (8MP) Dome POE IP Camera Security, 3840x2160, 98ft NightVision, 2.8mm Lens, IP67 Weatherproof, IK10 Vandal Resistance, MicroSD Recording, White (IP8M-2493EW)

I recently bought two of these cameras to integrate into my homelab and provide my home with a bit of security. I cannot express enough how pleased I am with the quality of these cameras. They were easy to configure and setup with Frigate was painlessly easy.The audio quality is top notch, even though I couldn't get the default AAC audio codec to work and had to use G.711A instead.Installation of the cameras is a no brainer, you just losten the dome cover with 3 screws with the provided hex wrench, set your screws internally once you're happy with it's placement and then re-secure the cover.The camera can be rotated (manually) inside the dome 360 and has a solid vertical adjustment as well.I'm colorblind so I suppose I can't vouch much for the color "quality" but from what I can tell it's quite vibrant. And the AMCREST WebUI for the cameras gives you a lot of control over the image quality. The IR strength can be adjusted as well as Brightness/Contrast/Exposure/Gamma/Sharpness ect.You can adjust the audio gain within the webUI as well. Even at 25% gain I can hear conversations from those at the pumps across the street; so it's quite good though it's sensitive enough you'll want to adjust your output speakers volume; don't make the mistake I did and forget your 5.1 surround is set quite loud baha!I will most certainly be buying more of these for additional angles on the house as well as a couple for inside the house to monitor my kids and Lord forbid any unwelcome visitors.

PROS:- 4K resolution with 69-112° field of view offers wide coverage along with exceptional image quality.(I've attached images showing 4K image quality during daytime, dusk and nighttime conditions)- This camera has DHCP enabled by default so you may simply connect it to your network to begin. The initial setup & configuration can be performed from within the Amcrest View Pro App or directly via a web browser (I tested Firefox and Chrome).- Amcrest is security conscious. On first login, the interface will force a password change so that default credentials aren't used afterward.- Infrared night vision performance is acceptable. Quoted total range is up to 98ft with 18 IR LEDs, but as with all IR devices the illumination distance is subjective.- The camera housing can be purchased in either black or white colors and is constructed of metal with a glass dome which is favored for optics.- Being vandal resistant the use of a Torx tool is required to open the unit. A Torx screwdriver along with a mounting template, screws and wall anchors are all included. Screws are affixed to the dome shell so they can't be lost or dropped during a vertical installation. Visual indicators also aid with alignment, these are small but meaningful features.- The camera can be rotated, tilted or physically adjusted to suit most positions, however, vandal proof construction requires the dome be removed first.- Power over Ethernet (PoE) is ideal for installations where it may be difficult to get power and eliminates costly cables. Consumes less than 5.5W.- The dome housing has a full rubber gasket along with weatherproof rating of IP67 protection against dust/sand.- Excellent for both cold and hot climates as operational specs are -22F~+140F (-30C~+60C).- Amcrest View Pro App is free for iOS & Android. Intuitive for setup, config and viewing of up to 16 cameras.- Receive motion alert notifications via email or App based on zones you've configured.- Supports both H.265/H.246 (High Efficiency Video Coding) to reduction in network bandwidth and storage.- Recordings can be saved to internal MicroSD, FTP, Cloud Service, Network Video Recorder or NAS device. Supports RTSP and ONVIF too.- Full product documentation can be found online. At 73 pages it may be a little overwhelming but all options are covered.- Lifetime support provided directly from Amcrest along with warranty service in the USA.- Date & Time is retained after losing power for an extended period.CONS:- At dusk BLC or WDR options are not enabled by default. Enabling BLC greatly improves the night vision performance dramatically. Not too sure why Amcrest chose to shut it off.- Browser interface needs work. Live view, playback and motion zone setup via Web Browser requires a plugin. Hopefully this shortcoming will be addressed by switching to HTML5 Video in a future update!- Last Firmware update was back in 2018.TO BE NOTED:- 4K (8-Megapixel 3840x2160) resolution is limited to 15 frames per second (FPS), but you can switch res if higher frames are required.- There are no built-in speakers or microphones on this device but the attached wire pigtail contains audio wires (I/O) and alarm wiring.OVERALL:- The Amcrest IP8M-2493EW is an all-round solid performing 4K dome camera with the added benefit of comprehensive mechanical protection thanks to a IK10 vandal resistance rating. Night vision performance is good, but takes some configuration & tweaking to best suit your environment.

Amcrest UltraHD 4K (8MP) POE Vandal Dome Camera (IP8M-2493EW-V2) ReviewHere is what I thought about this Camera:Marketing: I looked at various offerings for Vandal Dome cameras on Amazon and found that this Amcrest camera has a lot of features, and Amcrest did a good job describing the most important ones on Amazon.Packaging: I have other Amcrest cameras and as with all of Amcrest’s products, I found the overall packaging to be excellent. The contents of the box were smartly organized in foam to maximize space while providing good protection for all the pieces. In addition to the camera, the box included a quick start guide for setting up the camera, as well as some other marketing and security information, and a warranty card. The quick start guide is only for setting up the camera. It is not a user manual that explains all the features of the camera and how to use it; however, a full user manual for that purpose is available online at Amcrest’s support site.Assembly/Installation: The camera came fully assembled so not much to add on this. There was a mounting template included to make mounting the camera easy; a nice addition. I have a PoE switch so connecting this camera just required me to run ethernet to it. Otherwise, it does have a mini pin barrel connector for power, which is handy, but no power supply is included which would make this camera not as attractive to the average user that would not likely have a PoE switch. It also is not a wifi camera, so it needs an ethernet connection regardless which is another limiting factor.Quality: I am just a regular user of these devices and not a professional in the field. So commenting on quality is subjective and based on what I am physically seeing with real world use. Based on what I paid for this camera, I think the overall quality both in its design and function is very good. The picture quality is very good; night vision was ok for near field but was not remarkable. Field of view is as advertised. I am not going to go into depth on all the features; suffice it to say this camera has ample features for a stationary turret camera. It is a good value with a few limitations.Finishing thoughts: This is a nice, low profile turret camera with good features and well worth the price, but will be stuck in a niche of users that have a PoE switch or a regular switch and the need to purchase a separate power supply.
