Considering the stability of the laptop stand and preventing the problem of loose hinges in the future, we adjusted the hinges tightly during production, but we have tested that after customers use them for a period of time, the hinges will become easy to adjust. And there will be no loose hinges in the future.

What is the height capability? I want to stand and type.

According to the enclosed manual, the top plate will extend 200mm from the base plate. That equates to about 7.87 inches. I personally like this stand as it works well with my MacBook.

Will this hold a very heavy laptop (alienware 17)?

I have a 15" Lenovo, it could hold a lot more weight than mine, so I'd say yes it can hold yours. It is very strong and the swivel arms are hard to adjust/move.
