It's just a basic manual dial safe. It has a very solid feel and locks up tight! When turning the dial, though, you want to remember to just hold the lever up a bit and you will see how easy it turns by doing that. It's a roomy safe and has two inserts-one a tray and the other a bin, to use for keeping items separated. We like that you can easily adjust both the tray and bin to fit your needs. The combination is preset at the factory and is shown on the back cover of the manual. Make sure to make a note of it some place safe where you can easily find it. The manual also shows the serial number for you so that's good to have in case any issues come up. We drilled into, and through, the floor so did not need the concrete bolts. Actually, we used a couple of 7/16" bolts we had and also the matching nuts and cinched them up nice and snug. Make sure when you drill that you drill from the outside of the safe, not inside. The Bosch drill bits went through the metal easily. We then righted the safe and used a brush to clean out the debris. Some of the debris is sharp so watch for it. The door closes nice and snug however the drilling compromises the waterproof feature but it's well off the main floor so that was not an issue but it is something you want to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to anchor the safe. We read the directions before doing anything and they are very clear and easy to follow. All in all, a great safe and we are very happy with it!! A further note: The bottom of the same is very smooth and we were able to slide it along to it's permanent location!! (We are seniors so paid the fee to have it delivered inside our home. My safe came with 2 - 4" lug screws, 2 washers, and 2 masonry anchors. To anchor safe to the floor, one has to tip the safe on its side and drill holes through the bottom at two indentations on opposite sides of the safe, using a 7/16" , masonry bit. Then sit the safe upright and place it where you want to secure it to the floor, mark the floor (through the drilled holes), move the safe aside, drill into the floor using 9/32" bit for wood floor or a 3/4" masonry bit for masonry floor (then install the masonry anchor in each hole); in either case, drill holes 2 1/2" deep into the floor. Move the safe back over the holes; for wood floors, insert the screw through the washer, through the holes in the safe, and into the holes in the wood floor - tighten with a wrench. Do the same for masonry floors and tighten with a wrench. Hope this helps. **Q: (1) Can you change the combination? (2) Do you need both the key and the combination at once to open, or is the key an "override" ? Thanks.** A: I'm not sure why people are saying you can't change the combination, but the user manual provides instructions on how to add your own "user code" and even temporary "user pins". The factory code can't be deleted but if you just set up your own user code you can change that anytime you want. In case this is Amazon being weird and linking these answers to a different product, my answer is for the electronic combination lock product (SFW123FUL); per the same instructions, the physical combination lock version does not allow for changing the combination.http://www.sentrysafe.com/pdfs/OwnersManuals/513023.pdf **Q: can this be bolted to the wall thru the back or to the floor?** A: There are two designated spots for you to drill through that is located on the very bottom shelf inside the safe. You drill through those two spots and use the included mounting hardware and this safe isn't going anywhere. There are no designated spots to drill through the back/side so it is not wall mountable. I would understand why because most homes have drywall so the drywall could be demoed around the safe and then the safe can be taken. Ripping up the floor (carpet, wood, sub flooring, concrete, etc.) will take a lot more effort when this safe is properly mounted to the floor from within the safe. **Q: is the handle plastic? i had a previous sentry safe and the handle was plastic and felt like it would break** A: Yes, the outside of the handle is plastic, but I believe the actual handle mechanism is metal. When you're opening it, the motion feels solid so at least the innards is metal. If someone tries to turn the handle without knowing the combination, there's a feature that is meant to allow the handle to still turn without engaging the bolts. It weighs 125 lbs. so it was well worth it to have the delivery men bring it inside) ### ⭐ Poor Quality - Lock wouldnt open properly, lock and handle made of plastic, moisture issues! *by M***K on 29 February 2024* Delivered but after half a dozen attempts to open it, it would not open reliably and required pushing the handle, which gave a number of unpleasant sound plastic clicking noises and was extremely difficult to lock or unlock - the mechanism itself was partially jammed or wasnt aligned to the right combination. Phoned the manufacturer who instructed me to dissassemble the rear front of the safe (it was clearly a very common problem!) revealing it was indeed entirely a plastic locking assembly..! Utter unreliable piece of junk, on top of which was the apparent moisture problems (I was planning on storing my camera in there, as per their photos!) Trying to return it can be a nightmare also - as you need the original packing material, and I doubt even batman could get this safe out without ripping apart the packaging materials totally!
