Yes it will a little. I'm 5'6" and it is even with mine. But it's really durable material so it will probably save a lot of wear and tear on your knees and pants

As of now are the straps on the waxed canvas version real leather or synthetic?

The straps are synthetic and tend to fray slightly.

Looking to get for father but will the tie backs fit a 54in waste?

Apron itself is about 26 inches wide and the ties are around 40 inches long on each side. So that leaves around 4 feet of tie length. Should be fine but he may want a little wider apron width to have good coverage of his sides.

What color is the apron? One picture looks like leather brown and the others more gray.

The one my son has is more like blue denim.
