Review: good flash cards! - So far my best attempt at learning Japanese yet! On one side you just have the basic hiragana character... the other side is a bit busy, but all useful things. On the back you have the hiragana character, with the romanji pronunciation and stroke order for writing it. Writing the character on the palm of your hand is a great starting place to get some simple early practice in before wasting a ton of paper. There is also a Katakana equivalent (not super useful compared to getting the actual katakana set) Then you have 2-3 examples of the character used in a word or short phrase. First with 'normal' Japanese, including Kanji. Then again in hiragana/katakana for pronunciation. Then in romanji for idiots like me (though I am starting to be able to cover this column now). And finally and English translation. The nice thing about the examples is that they are in expected locations on each card, so it is easy to cover the columns you don't want to see before flipping the card over. It helps you not just learn the Hiragana, but also some basic Kanji as well as some exposure to Katakana. As all 3 writing systems are required for the language, I have found this to be really helpful! There is also a color code, and a number on each card, so if you are like me and want to get all of your annoying 'wa' 'ne' 'nu' 're' characters together for review, you can easily pull them out without having to worry about putting them back 'in order' for future review of a specific column/group of the alphabet in the future. Obviously as you learn them better, you will leave them more mixed and out of order, but for starting out I found that being able to put them back in order easily was weirdly comforting. The cards themselves are in a nice durable box (which I really wish the other sets came in!), and they are washable and water-resistant plastic-paper hybrid material. Lots of grip/texture, and simi-gloss finish that keeps reflections down but cleaning easy. I tend to practice while relaxing in the tub, or while eating lunch at work, and the cards getting wet or food on them hasn't been an issue; they clean up really easily and still look new after a few weeks of heavy use and lots of clumbsy spills will sitting on a park bench trying to balance flash cards and food lol. These are also the same playing card size/texture as the Katakana and Vocab cards that they sell, so you can easily mix-and-match cards from different sets for review, which is nice. And because of the different backs and color codes, you can easily sort them all back to their appropriate sets again without issue. Seriously... I am not a particularly 'smart' person, and these cards have been a massive help compared to previous attempts to learn. No replacement for listening, speaking, or reading actual text... but if you are like me and at a point where even a Japanese children's book looks impossible, then these are going to be a good starting point to learn not just the Hiragana alphabet, but also get a few basic Kanji under your belt too.
Review: Well-Made and Super Useful for Beginners - These hiragana flashcards have been such a great tool for learning. Each card has the hiragana character on the front, and the back includes its pronunciation, stroke order, and the corresponding katakana and kanji (when applicable). I really appreciate being able to see how to write each character properly, not just recognize it. The cards are sturdy, easy to read, and thoughtfully designed. The extra info on the back helps make connections across writing systems early on, which I wasn’t expecting from a basic flashcard set. Great for self-study or review on the go. Highly recommend.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hiragana flashcards are excellent
*by C***T on February 14, 2024*

This set of Japanese hiragana flash cards is just what i needed for my Japanese class! They are the size of a deck of playing cards, heavy duty but easily shuffled. They contain all 104 Japanese hiragana characters, including those with diacritical marks and compound chacters. On one side of each card is a character in large size, easy to read. On the other side is the romaji pronunciation of the character, a diagram of the stroke order, the corresponding katakana character, a kanji for the character, and several words using the character, written in kanji, hiragana, romaji, with an English definition. Really useful! CPG
