FURminator Short Hair deShedding Tool for Medium Dogs

We have two small dogs (mixed breeds), one short haired (coarse bristly) and one softer longer haired. Both shed, and for years we've had to vacuum the carpets and couch every day and would still end up with fur on our clothes, coffee table, throw blankets, etc. It was very unappetizing and tedious to clean. We chose the short-haired small furminator. It works great on both dogs. The edges of the tool are "sharp" like a dull pencil, so I'm glad we went with the small, as a larger one would likely scratch their skin while trying to brush curved areas like around their legs and underbelly. The short-haired version works fine on our longer haired dog. Her hairs range from half an inch to an inch and a half. If I had a larger dog with long hair, I would go for the long haired brush, to decrease the amount of times I need to "empty" it. But the brush doesn't tug or rip at the longer fur, even though the metal bristles have shorter tines. I'm careful to brush delicately on areas with sparse hair (belly) so as not to scratch their skin. One of my dogs doesn't like to be held much and the other cuddle bug usually won't hold still. After two akward brushing sessions with each, they've both learned to stay sitting in one place for the brushing and they do so because they love the brush! I'm amazed at how excited they get every time I pick up the brush. I've been brushing them each every other day, each one until I don't get much hair in the tines. This has almost entirely reduced the free floating fur in the house! Their coats look no thinner (a good thing of course) and the only difference in appearance is a straight brushed coat. This was well worth the price to keep our home worlds cleaner and make the dogs happy with another routine that provides them attention and relaxation.

I ordered the long hair brush for my cat. It is a great brush, but my cat won't sit still long enough to make an impact. I can brush him for about 2 minutes as he walks along me, covering me in the loose hair the brush creates! It definitely works, but I am not able to do a complete job. It has cut down significantly on the amount of hair I find in his favorite sleeping spots. He likes it, I just wish he'd sit still. Please read the following review for the short haired model, since it does esentially the same thing. I ordered this model of the furminator, for short haired dogs. what can I say? I know, AMAZING! I have an american bull dog and a black lab/boxer mix. even though they are short haired, they shed enough to fill a couch pillow every week! they are primarily inside dogs, with the ability to go outside as they desire. However, they tend to nap on my dark carpet all day! I used the brush the first time and oh wow! one pillow stuffed later, and viola! my carpet stayed clean for 3 days before I had to vaccuum (I was vaccuuming every day). In the description, and some reviews, it said it would prevent shedding for up to 6 weeks. Well, there is significantly less shedding, I don't think that is the case. I am still thrilled with it. But I've found I brush each dog for about 5 minutes every night, and about once a week I spend about 15 minutes on each dog. My carpet is hair free and they both LOVE IT! One added benefit is the black lab has a bit of dry skin, almost like a dandruff, that went away and both dogs coats are super soft and so shiny! I also bought the shampoo to decrease shedding, but I cannot say that was much different than regular shampoo. the brush is the key!

I have a 90+ lb St. Bernard (VERY Hairy) and a 7lb Chihuahua (small, but sheds constantly). I have the large one for the big dog and the small one for the little one. I recommend small as opposed to the extra small because the handle is too small for my grip on the x-small. My St. Bernard is SO hairy and massive that the brush will in no way harm him, even if I exert a lot of pressure on it. Plus he really enjoys the brush strokes, it's like getting a "scratch massage" for him. In less than 15 minutes, I'm done grooming his entire body, head to toe. Once I get most of his shedding fur off, he's so much well groomed and happy. Very easy to use the brush, no fur sticks to the brush or gets in your way, it's literally "stroke" "push the slider" "fur slides off" and repeat again and again. No brush works as great as this one. For my chihuahua I use the size small for short hair. It does not damage her sensitive skin and it collects a great amount of fur. This too makes her feel good as it feels like a scratching sensation and she's got a relaxed, goofy look. I use this before and after baths and any time it's shedding season. Also use with Furminator deShedding Shampoo/Conditioner! My Chihuahua benefits from it by having a softer, shiny fur coat. (She's sensitive to grass and fleas so she sheds fur and her skin gets irritated but the deShedding products must have the nutrients they claim to have because it made her skin and fur healthy)

Was kind of skeptical that this would work. That whole... too good to be true thing. We have a small dog...short hair terrier with course hair. It really helped with all of the undercoat. She wasn't distressed or upset about it and she is NOT good with grooming. While it doesn't eliminate shedding completely, it did reduce the dog hair we see in around the house. Idid a thorough de-shedding when we first received it. This takes time so be patient, but after the initial de-shed, we do this every couple of weeks and it takes very little time. Her coat is already much better. This is part of an overall skin/coat treatment that we've been implementing. The push button makes it super easy to unload the unwanted hair. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it has more trouble with her coarse hair than the finer, softer undercoat that we initially removed.

After using some cheap brushes from various other places, we decided to spend the money and buy the FURminator and it has been a life saver. If you had seen my apartment (and clothes) before we got this brush, you would have thought we had a huge dog and not the tiny 30lb dog that we have. Don't get me wrong, he still sheds, but the furminator has seriously cut down on the hair we find all over the place. You will be shocked by the huge clumps of hair this thing gets off of your pet. You will still need to brush frequently, there's no substitute for that, but this thing really really works. I would absolutely buy it again. The only complaint I have is that it came with a yellow thing that seemed like it was supposed to be a cover for the combs (they're kind of sharp) but the yellow thing doesn't actually fit over the comb part. Not a huge deal though, you'll just have to be careful not to cut yourself with it. Also, don't base your purchase off the fact that this comb has a button to help push the hair off the comb. It works but not very well. All this means is a little extra time using your hand to pull the hair off the comb. Not a huge deal. All this being said, I would still buy this again.

Let me tell you about my little blue heeler mutt JC. I love JC more than anything, but JC sheds like no dog I've ever seen. We bathe him roughly every 10 to 14 days and tried regular brushing. All of which seemed to get a lot of hair off of him, but our couch, bed, and clothes still said looked like we lived with 8 dogs instead of just the one. Now, when this thing arrived, JC had just been bathed not an hour prior and had left behind an unreal amount of hair as is, so we didn't expect to be blown away the first time using it as a result. We were wrong...oh were we wrong. With every pass of the Furminator down his coat I swore there couldn't be anymore. By the time we were done - or should I say by the time JC was done because we could have kept going - we had removed enough hair to fill an entire juice glass...and that was compacted, not just fluffs we through in there, there was no wasted volume in this glass (rest assured we no longer use this glass, it was just closer than the trashcan at the time and the damn thing was ugly anyways). To me, this product is worth 3x its value and I'd gladly pony up the money if I had to because it works that well. Do yourself, your house, your clothes, and your pup a favor and add this to your cart now.

Very rarely do i review items on amazon... but boy let me tell you this thing is amazing!!! I have tried the kong rubber brush being that i have a short hair Am Staff pupp and it was such a hassle dragging that rubber thing down his back causing him minor discomfort.... now i only use it to scrub him in the bath.... but back ot this furminator thing... wow with so much ease and very minimal work it gets all the dry dead hair off his undercoat with no problem at all and it does one hell of a job!! I would definatly reccomend this to everyone that has a dog or a cat regardless of how long the hair is.... just make sure very important your dog does not have any rashes or cuts or scabs because this will hurt him if it catches those areas... inspect your dog before using this item... and make sure you buy the correct one for your dog they come with long or short brush heads depending on the hair length of your pet... BUY THIS NOW!! I got mine on sale for 13 bucks now its back up to around $30 but in the petstores they are crazy... they want about $55+ for it... get it while u still can!!!

This item is 100% worth the money! I have two mixed short-haired chihuahuas that are indoor dogs. My dogs shed a lot of hair and every brush I used felt like I was endlessly removing hair and it wasn’t lessening. A friend of my mine had a german shepard and recommended this brush to me. I had only ever purchased cheap brushes from Walmart and Target so I felt it was a little pricey, but I was desperate to put an end to all this dog hair. Let me tell you this brush was so worth it! I’ve used it for years!! And in reality, I’ve saved money in the long term because I’m no longer looking for new brushes to test out because the previous brush weren’t doing the job. I would use this after washing my dogs and making sure they were completely dry - that’s when the shedded hair was the most loose. Eventually I fell in love with the brand so much that I bought the FURminator Deshedding Conditioner to use also. This brush collects so much hair and it’s nice because it holds it all. Once you are ready you push a button and it releases all the hair. The first time I used it, it was so satisfying to see less and less hair be collected. I stop brushing once I see that the brush is collecting less hair or if my dogs tell me it’s time to stop brushing. And I’m always gently when using on my dogs. If you have a pet that sheds hair, buy this item. If you have a pet that sheds excessively buy the FURminater shampoo or conditioner. It’ll make brushing your dog a less annoying chore and you’ll be relived to have less hair around the place. Your dog will be also appreciate having less brushing time.

Amazing tool for puppy deshedding, too bad the size selected is a bit small for my Lab however still does the job

I read reviews about this dog grooming aid and thought yeah right can't be as good as that but seeing as the price was reasonable here on Amazon compared to elsewhere, I thought I would try one, I bought the medium for short coat for my short coated border collie. this is an amazing tool, it removed loads and I mean loads of her dead undercoat, she looked so much smarter and didn't seem to object to it. I didn't apply heavy pressure just light brushing was all that was needed. I would say that if your dog is a cold water swimmer or a dog living outside or working outside then do not remove too much coat otherwise they dog may get chilled. The amount of hair being moulted around the house has been considerably less. I have had many different brushes and combs over the years that I have owned dogs and none have removed hair like this, I didn't find static a problem and there was hardly any loose hair floating up into my face as I brushed her as I used to have with other brushes. A great grooming aid which I will continue to use on her and any other dog that I have in the future.
