Used to Prep for Yoga Certification
I wanted to do some pre-work before starting my Yoga Cert courses. This popped up as one of the most recommended. Going through it was definitely helpful. The illustrations are the right amount of detail. I even took pictures of some of the images with my phone to create flash cards on my phone. I felt ready, if not ahead of the curve for my cert classes and continue to use the book as a quick reference guide when describing a new pose.

Great Yoga Introduction for the Non-Spiritual
This book is absolutely great. It really goes into yoga from a biological point of view describing how our body moves through the motions and positions. It also does a great introduction into the spiritual parts of yoga that can be intimidating to those wanting to begin practicing without any spiritual leanings or foundations. It's a yoga book without a lot of "the woo" as some might put it and because of that I've read it cover to cover. It does of course touch on the spiritual aspects of yoga, because these things are connected but the way it's introduced is palatable for those of us who usually get turned off by such things. It's like your gateway into yoga, trust. Also very helpful if you're wanting to target any specific muscle group or area of the body. Very useful book!!

Breaks everything down
I love this book. The authors break down everything. This is my second purchase of this book. I gave the old one to a friend.

Where’s the fascia? Otherwise, great
Far more complete and comprehensive than the first edition (I did not see the second edition so can’t compare to that). Page numbers with supposed errors noted below by another reviewer do not line up with this edition so I don’t know what they’re referring to. This book does reference Yoga concepts, so know that those are different than ‘western’ ways of seeing the body — open your mind a bit and let it expand. One huge hole in this book, though - I can find no discussion of fascia, which feels like a giant missed opportunity and oversight. Hopefully a 4th edition will include this. Agree with another previous reviewer that the lack of an index is annoying. These issues aside, it’s beautifully illustrated, clear, thought-provoking, and deeply informative. This book may be a bit much for beginners, but certainly belongs in every serious Yoga student’s library.

the only anatomy book
THis book is written from the most heart-centered place. It is filled with wisdom and dismantles the simple mechanistic model of the body in favor of a more contextual approach. Rich and wise. I've used is as a text book in all of the yoga teacher trainings I've lead.
