This mattress is so amazing it has literally changed our life! I highly recommend this mattress.
This folding mattress is fantastic! It works well as a bed and works well as a couch, for us. It has literally changed our life! We ordered this mattress because we had problems with an air mattress (the third air mattress that didn't hold up to myself and a bouncy 3 year old) and needed something that would take up less space. We live in a very very small space and the air mattress we had took up nearly half of our livable space! We dealt with it, thinking that it was our best bet for mobility and ease of use as well as the fact that our daughter enjoyed using it to bounce on, making it seem like it was used for a least a little bit more than just sleeping on. After our third mattress died on us we decided to go looking for something different. I hadn't ever heard of a foldable mattress but it was the first thing my husband found when he started his search for something other than an air mattress. After many hours, researching everything from sofa beds to retractable wall beds, we decided to go with this. We hadn't had a couch in our living space and without chairs, it made our bed the spot everyone sat on when visiting, which clearly made them uncomfortable. Also, as mentioned, although our daughter enjoyed the air mattress doubling as a toy and couch, it really did take up half of our living space and we were hoping for something to give her more play space. This fit all of these things perfectly! When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at how light weight it was. We purchased the queen size mattress and already I was excited about being able to carry it on my own, and manipulate it easily in our space. As described, it arrived in a large, very high quality duffel bag. When we unzipped the duffel bag we found instructions for the mattress - very nice! We took the mattress out and cut it out of the plastic (carefully!). It did smell when we took it out of the plastic but honestly, it wasn't really bothersome. It reminded me of a new couch smell...or a new car smell...it is definitely noticeable, especially if you put your face/nose right up against the mattress but not unpleasant - to me. I sort of liked it in the way that bleach smells nice - like something is new and clean...despite knowing its not good for me to breathe in. At any rate, this is almost completely gone 4 days after opening it. Now, I can only faintly smell it if I put my nose directly up to it. When we opened it I was really nervous about it not decompressing all the way, especially since it was still quite compressed in various areas after 24 hours but, as the instructions say, letting it sit for 48 hours did the trick, to all but some spots on the very corners (see photo). We have slept on this for two nights now and I cannot feel a spot where it may be uneven or not completely decompressed. Whew! I would say that this mattress is medium in firmness but feels so soft and comfy to me, I want to stay in bed all day. I think that is more of a personal preference thing and is hard to comment on. I was nervous about people saying that it is a firm mattress, even knowing that I prefer more of a firm mattress but I have been very happy with its firmness. Perhaps I do like a firm mattress and perhaps that is why I am so happy with it but it really does feel soft and cushy and not hard like a board or like sleeping on the floor. Granted, compared to a smooshy air mattress I did have some aches after the first night, but that may also have been related to the fact that the air mattress was dysfunctional and I had been sleeping on an incredibly awkward, hugely lumpy, back breaking position for three nights while I waited for this mattress to arrive. After night two on this mattress I am all healed up and slept incredibly well for the first time in at least a week. As far as its ability to be used as a couch, it works great for our family. When we wake up in the morning I take off the comforter and our pillows and within 30 seconds have the bed folded into a couch. I fold the comforter and set it next to the couch with our pillows. We have a mattress cover and fitted sheet on the mattress and I leave them on when I fold it up - it works fantastic! This means that I do not have to make the bed each night, nor take it apart in the morning and it also means that the couch fabric is protected. Granted, this means that we are sitting on our sheets all day but this is okay for us, as we were already sitting on our sheets all day. :) On the flip side, at night, when I notice our 3 year old getting sleepy, I simply pull the couch apart, throw the comforter and pillows on it and its all ready for sleeping. This probably takes less than 30 seconds. In order to account for the folding, I have the sheets loose on the bed. They would fit snugly, as sheets on a regular mattress would, but I have purposely pulled them loose from the sides in order to allow for the 30 second transformation into a couch. Again, this works for us, perhaps not everyone. Other reviews have mentioned that the couch does not work for adults but could work for children. It does indeed work for our 3 year old and she absolutely LOVES it. She loves that she has a couch she can sit on easily and reach the floor with her feet while keeping something on her lap. She loves to lay across the whole thing and jump on both the "seat" part and the "back" part. She also loves to slide from the back to the seat, to the floor. Overall, it has become a seating spot as well as a toy. For me, the couch works great as well. Prior to having this mattress, we did not have any seats or furniture in our space so I am accustomed to sitting on the floor and playing with our daughter on the floor all day. Being able to sit next to her on a couch is great! I absolutely do not mind that it is only 8 inches off the ground and my average sized body fits just fine on the seating space. Although my husband has only sat on it once, he did note that he sunk pretty far down, being that he is nearly 200 pounds. That said, he didn't have any problem while sitting on it or using it, he just noted that it squished the cushion a lot. We do have it backed up to a wall, as we would with any couch or mattress in this space, so that may account for the ability for adults to sit on it easily. We have not tried using it without it being against the wall. One thing that I wanted to mention, for anyone that it may be useful to, this mattress is also great for easy napping without needing to unfold the entire thing. The other day when our daughter was looking like she was going to take a nap, I folded just the back rest part down to make it level with the seat part of the couch, making a sort of 1/2 sized bed. We then laid the short way on it, with our comforter and pillows folded up under my head, to give it more length (otherwise, my legs would be partially off the end, though, not uncomfortably so). We napped on the 1/2 sized bed for nearly 3 hours very comfortably. Once she woke up all I had to do was fold the back up again and we had the couch back. So, we are even able to use it three ways very effectively. All in all, today was our third day with this couch and tonight will be our third night sleeping on the mattress and I could not be more pleased with it! We have an incredibly large space to run and play in now (well, large compared to what we had - we gained an entire queen size mattress space in our home!), which we have used fully each day with our 3 year old, we have a couch to sit on and play on, which we didn't have before and we have a much more comfortable bed to sleep on each night. AND, I could not be happier about the fact that we will never wake up on the floor with a popped air mattress again! Oh, and the handles that came on it make this so easy to move around, that when we move to another home, it will be super easy to take this with us. I do not care one single bit that it is larger than an air mattress to move....it is a million times worth it. And one more thing...I had completely forgotten what it was like to be able to move in bed without waking another person up! I beg everyone reading this - if you are trying to decide between this and an air mattress - get this! I promise it is better...and we had the "luxury" pillow top fully automated, remote controlled air mattress...this still beats it every single time! LOVE this!

Awesome for Japanese-style floor sleeping!!!!!
(**NOW, with UPDATES!!! PLEASE READ THE STUFF AT THE BOTTOM.**) I was creating an Asian-style bedroom for myself so I wanted to try an Asian-styled sleeping option too. First I was looking at some of the more "traditional" Japanese floor futons filled with cotton and wool. Almost committed to buying one of those here when this product came up on one of my searches. Now I had seen the foam pad "shikibutons," but, those particular ones didn't look or sound that appealing. When I saw that this foam bed was made of **memory foam** instead of regular foam, that sounded much nicer. The intro price for this (got it for $86.99 + free shipping from Amazon) was pretty competitive with the other floor sleepers. What ultimately sucked me in completely was the fact that this product was covered by Amazon's guarantee. You've got 30 days to see if it...well...doesn't suck. Also the company that makes it offers a 3-year warranty. Most off-the-floor mattresses don't have that. Those factors helped me to make the final decision to buy. Now, here's the experience of a 5-foot 9-inch, 190(ish) pound male-- Comfy Factor: After setting it up and sleeping on it for a few days I can say that it is EXTREMELY comfortable! (I'll throw in a YAY for that just like the 1st reviewer Miyoko.) 4 inches of **memory foam** is more than enough to feel great. The foam used in this feels like quality. It has enough firmness to keep me off the ground while still being soft enough to be cushy. I sleep on all sides but tend to be primarily a side-sleeper. I haven't felt the ground yet. Smells: The smell right out of the box wasn't bad at all. All **memory foam** has at least a slight smell but this was very mild. I let it air out for a couple of hours and then found myself taking a nap on it. Dozed off for two hours. No headaches, dizziness, etc. If you're chemically sensitive you may not want to use synthetic bedding options though, just to be safe. Traditional cotton futons might be a better bet for you. Materials & Construction: Like I said, the foam feels like very good quality. Just like with anything only time will tell how long it remains cushy/firm and repels body impressions. The cover is pretty much the same thing you find covering the cushioning on really good hiking backpacks. It's that breathable polyester mesh which is very tough stuff. Think of it as poly-chainmail protecting your mattress. It helps the foam to breathe and air out. It also seems to be good for NOT picking up lint and crap off the carpet. Nothing seems to stick to it too badly. It's very easy to brush off with your hand. It seems like it's very well constructed. Good and strong stitching of the cover to hold it all together. It does have zippers but it's NOT a removable or washable cover. Other Functions / Convertibility: I think they should have said floor chair instead of "sofa" in the description. I sat in it like in the picture and it is comfy. A bit awkward but comfy. Think of it as a close-to-the-ground-leaning-sideways chair. (I'll upload pics in a bit.) However... if you leave the two large pads folded out and just fold the two smaller pads together it DOES make a very nice floor lounger. That worked great for me. I throw a couple of pillows on it and lean back and it's like reclining on a cloud. Try it!!! Size: It is 39 inches wide and 6 feet and 3 inches long. Weight: Well, the shipping weight said 16 pounds. Opened up it's very lightweight. Maybe 7 pounds. Not sure. Almost anyone could move it around easily I think. Sheets & Covers: Twin sheets fit it perfectly. Don't need deep pocket ones, just regular ones. I bought a microfiber set and it fits like a glove. So far it seems like I made the right choice and I'm very happy with it. I'll give further updates on how well it holds up in the future. Anyone feel free to ask any questions if you need further info. Happy sleeping!!!!! **UPDATE (July 25, 2013): OK, I had to update the folks here on something. The mattress is NOT actually "memory foam." It used to say this in the original listing. It is now listed as "flexible polyurethane foam." I do wish LinenSpa had gotten their advertising facts straight before they started selling. (1 point off for them.) The memory foam tag WAS a selling point for myself and others. To me it's still very comfy though. I've been using it as my primary bed and I still really like it. It feels soft enough by my standards, and I'm NOT overweight. I wouldn't give it up. However, since it's not memory foam (after their correction) I'm very glad I got it for $86.00--hehe. My advice...get it when it's below $100. MAYBE LinenSpa ought to be giving at least partial refunds for the misleading original listing? Extra notes: Bedding is a very personal thing. No one mattress will feel the same to everyone. This one is not by any means hard, but, it is not soft like a fluffy-wuffy bag of goose down either. Also, if you're going to complain about the cover being scratchy and uncomfortable...ummmm...try using some sheets on it. I mean, who sleeps on a mattress (any mattress) without covering it? A cave troll? Just felt like saying that. **February 11, 2014: Yep, I'm still using it and it's holding up great. Still my primary bed. An extra note: I noticed in one of the customer's pictures that their's had a handle. Mine does not. Probably an addition made to later models.

Minor gripes, but overall great
To give you an idea of my application, we have this in the back of a converted Ford cargo van. It sits on top of an OSB platform that measures 71" wide by 84" long. The platform is mostly flat with a couple tie downs and hinges that poke up maybe 1/4". When in transit it is folded in thirds (the small "back" of the couch part isn't folded) and sits tilted up against the back of the seat. My wife was worried that this would be too big for the van when not in use and wanted to go with something inflatable. I don't care for inflatables as they are damage prone, and amazingly I won the argument and we got the Lucid mattress. Packaging - Why a duffel bag? It's one time use, and honestly not poorly made, so I'll use it elsewhere, just odd. I let the mattress expand for ~48 hours and didn't notice any uneven expansion or smell. YMMV here, a lot of folks complained about the scent, I haven't noticed a thing. It got to full size quickly. Weight - It's not heavy, with the handles I have no issues moving it around. My wife doesn't either, but it is heavy enough to stay put when it's folded up in the back of the van. It's also sturdy enough that when I moosh it out of the way to get to something behind it, it springs back as soon as I let go. Size - We bought the queen sized version, I haven't checked it with a tape measure but it seems dead on. We use a Teton Mammoth sleeping bag on it, fits great. My wife and I fit fine and our two dogs kind of hang off one side, everyone's comfy. Honestly the folded size isn't bad, it's not small, but it's bearable for the benefits it affords. Comfort - No complaints at all here, we slept like rocks on it. I'm 6'2", 175 lbs and I don't recall ever feeling the hard surface through the mattress while sleeping. It's firm, but comfy. Barring any breakdown of the foam, it'll work great for a long while. Couch - A nice bonus I didn't realize I wanted. We ran into some bitterly cold winds last weekend which forced the family (2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs) into the van for the evening. Both girls sat on the couch reading and playing games and loved it. It's low but perfect for us and was a Godsend in this case. Cover - My main gripe, it's kind of a mesh. I believe this is to allow the foam to breathe, which makes sense. However it's not waterproof and it grabs dog hair. We use a waterproof mattress cover for it, which works, but is a bit annoying. If they offered this with a waterproof or at least more sturdy cover, I'd go with that and probably bump the review to a 5 star. Overall - Big hit, not cheap but it feels high quality and works great for us. I expect a great summer of camping, if I run into any issues I'll update this review, but at this point I fully expect it to hold up.

Bed pad for the nomad!
I love this thing! I've only had it forrrrr...... about two weeks. BUT I had it in my cart for almost a year, weighing the options, looking into other beds and mats and even hammocks. The version I got was the queen size- it is in fact, FULL QUEEN SIZE! Super nice, since I was on couch cushions for the longest. It folds up nicely against my wall. Mostly, I use it that way as a cat bed, the foam gives a lot so you kinda sink in. At first, my cat did not like to be near me on it, I think these is a slight -new bed- smell that throws'im off, but I didn't notice anythin'. It fully expanded from the bag in about two days as it said on the bag. (I still slept on it the first night I got it) It's easy to just make your bed, fold it up and blam, cute couch outta the way. I don't really have any negatives right now. That may change! But as is, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. I have a severe case of wanderlust and this will also be serving as a bed on the road when I'm drivin' my van around. :> It's portable, it fits in my tent and you can keep your bed sheets on it folded, so you don't need more space for that! If you're tired of owning giant, stupidly space-taking beds... Grab this!! I got it at about $150 and I am satisfied. I recommend also to get to your local fabric store, grab a few large sheets of faux fur and fleece, stitch the fleece to the furs, BLAM. Snuggly winter blankets. Feel like a viking while you slumber like royalty! WHERE EVER YOU ARE! UPDATE!! December 8, 2016; I woke up today, folded the mattress and found a massive amount of moisture underneath. First instinct, yell at the cat. But I noticed it was me-sized. Which got me questioning my own muscle control. BUT. The sheets on top are bone dry, still dryer fresh! And my own clothes are clean as well. Further investigatin' and online reading brought up condensation. As this is a cooler time of the year, It would make sense.. I suggest finding a yoga mat, or raised slats to put this on in the winter, I guess! More Update!! May 9, 2017; I found out that the moisture build up was because I had been vaping like a monster and filling my small space with said vapor. SO. Still fantastic! I haven't washed the cover of it yet. But will be attempting so tomorrow! Queen sheets fit perfectly! Plus you can fold it up with the sheets still on it! Still my only bed, still springy and comfy. I still recommend it to anyone.

Comfy Mattress for Temp Solution
First, let me say, I don't write reviews very often even though I read them religiously before making ANY purchase online. Me taking the time out to write this is kind of a big deal to me...hehe That said, I received my mattress within just a few days of ordering it. I ordered it to accommodate a houseguest for a short visit. When I received the mattress, I followed the instructions and took it out of its packaging and let it lay flat and unbothered for over 48 hours. There was no odor that I could detect. The mattress seemed very compressed, but I figured it would expand if I gave it time. Fast forward to 59 hours later, I was disappointed to find that the mattress still had not fully expanded and had some large deep-set dips in each panel of the mattress. I tried beating out the indents. I tried massaging out the indents. I tried flipping the mattress over... the indents seemed to get slightly smaller, but they were still there a week later! Then I got an email asking me if I was satisfied with my purchase and I responded with, 'No... it still has dents and feels like I'm laying on a dead body.' To my pleasant surprise, their exceptional customer service department took immediate action in resolving my issue with the product. I supplied them with the info they needed and they sent a replacement right away! The customer service reps were very attentive, professional and quick with email correspondence. I must have gotten a "lemon" the first time (which happens from time to time no matter what the product is), because the replacement mattress, once unpackaged, expanded almost instantly! Within only a couple of hours, the mattress was fully expanded and shaped. :) Product Quality: Very high quality. The fabric is nice and strong and neutral in color. The stitching and seems are also nicely done and finished with a smooth opening zipper. A little bulky, but hey... what do you want?? it's a freakin' mattress! lol Also, very light... can carry it buy the double handle with just one hand. The foam itself is resilient and takes its shape immediately. I bought the 4" twin size mattress and when I lay on it, it is very comfortable. For some perspective, I'm a 49 year old woman, 5' tall, 125 lbs and fit. If I needed to, I could fold over one of the smaller sections and use it as a "pillow" and still have plenty of length on the mattress for the rest of me...hahaha (bonus to being a shorty!) Pros: High quality mattress. Comfortable. Portable. Converts into a mini sofa for a small child. Cons: It will never be the same compact size as it was before taking it out of the packaging. Must be stored in a nice and dry place. Recommend: Absolutely! This product is and does what it says! Advice: Order this product at least 2-3 weeks before you actually need it so you can let it breathe and expand... and if anything should not work out, then there is always their excellent customer service! Don't wait until the last minute or that's on you... life happens so plan accordingly whenever possible people. Hope this helps in your purchasing decision. Thanks for the read. Cheers!

I actually choose to sleep on this mattress as opposed to my actual twin size bed.
I actually choose to sleep on this mattress as opposed to my actual twin size bed. I wanted a new mattress for my studio apartment. The ideal one would be a bigger than my twin mattress, but prevent any inconvenience in space. My first thought was a futon, but I was unable to find anything that I liked. In addition, they would be too heavy to haul up to my apartment. After searching online, I found this mattress that could fold up into a couch and it appeared to be what I needed. This mattress is no "couch," and, if you're looking for a strong couch, then this probably isn't what you want, in my opinion. As a couch, it sinks when you sit in it and you will find yourself with any ability to really control your posture in a way you could construe as sitting. If a friend sits in it, then it's hilarious. Their unfamiliarity and lack of expertise with the couch may result in a giggle or chortle. There may be a way to make this more of a "couch," but it really hasn't been a concern for me. Friends still sit in it. When you find the right spot, it's still pretty comfortable. The big highlight is exactly what you think it is. It is a phenomenal mattress. You don't feel the floor beneath you and you can even tweak the folding to give yourself a little elevated head rest while lying down. I didn't experience any back issues that I normally have whenever I sleep on the floor because its really comfortable. I don't even use my old bed anymore. It's only in my room because my new cat made it her dungeon area. She clawed off some fabric under the box spring to create a cat cave that she flees to whenever someone comes over. I just don't have it in me to take it away from her. All in all, its a great mattress that I use daily. It has a lofty price tag, but I think that a mattress is one of those things that should be more of an investment. I'm not in the habit of replacing my purchases after short periods. I'd rather have the comfort and ease of use than the few dollars I would save by buying a cheaper model or mattress. Solid purchase.

Good: its comfortable
We just got this bed for a week and i had reservations before on getting this. My gut feel was right but also suprise on this bed. Good : its comfortable, a great size and you can make it into a twin bed or like a long low sofabed. You have an option to store it, if ur mot using it. Not so good: it really isnt 4 inches, more like 2 1/2 so i had to put a comforter on top to make it a lil more softer. I know it said its firm but i bought 2 memory foam smaller sizes it was 3 inches and that was thicker than this bed ,in another brand but it was really narrow and it didnโt work with my boys cause they move a lot when they sleep. So all in all its not so bad of a bed for my boys(im not a fan of cribs , my boys are very active so we sleep on the floor and was a challenge to get a good mattress)good for a sleep over, my twins me and my husband can all fit and be comfortable, like a slumber party

Received Defective Mattress
Iโve had my mattress for almost a week now and it never fully expanded. I have requested a refund but Iโll admit Iโm very disappointed in the refund process. This is a king size mattress that is mostly expanded with the exception of the middle portion and the best option for me would be for someone to come pick it up because of its size (king) but if I choose that option, Iโm expected to pack the product. I donโt know how to pack a king size mattress and I donโt feel itโs fair to expect a costumer to pay money or go completely out of their way to return a defective product. I have to figure out if this will even fit into my car to drive it to Kohlโs in order to return it now because I donโt have the means to pack it myself so that UPS can come to my home to pick it up. On top of all this, I donโt have a mattress to sleep on. I donโt feel the mattress itself is bad. I feel I either happened to get a defective one or it couldโve had to do with packing but I donโt know. Itโs extremely disappointing to wait for a product like a mattress to ship, wait for it to expand, (it doesnโt) then have to go through a difficult process of returning it but I remain mattress-less. I would like to order another one but I donโt know if itโll have the same problem and I donโt want to go through this again. I will try to contact the company since the mattress has a warranty and explain my situation because I donโt want to receive another mattress from Amazon that has the same issue and Iโm not sure if Amazon or the company is at fault in this situation. I will update my review once I have answers. I felt it was important to leave a review because this situation is ridiculous. Iโm a mother who works full time during a pandemic and I suffer from lung disease. Iโm already expected to risk my health for work and now Iโm supposed to figure out how to get a king size mattress to a department store to return itโfurther risking my health. Iโm pointing this out because everyoneโs home life situation isnโt the same and I ordered this online to be delivered for a reason. Now I have to find help from friends to do this task which for some people may be easy but it isnโt for parents of small children. Also, parents who work full time and are at risk from Covid 19. This is my first experience with needing to return something large and heavy. I was very surprised by how generic Amazonโs return options are. It should be based on the product and they shouldnโt expect customers to just figure it out when itโs something large and heavy and weโre in the middle of a pandemic. Iโve only ever experienced retuning electronic items in the past (small-medium) and both of those companies sent a box to my home so that I could return it. In the case of the product being defective/unable to be fixed, they set things up to exchange for a new one. One Amazons return app, when I try to exchange it doesnโt give the option to get another mattressโit gives an option to exchange for a completely different products (no mattress related). I was so baffled and needed to share in case there are others out there who have no idea about this. I hope I can get easier exchange options through Lucid. If I can, I will not do the Amazon exchange because it feels impossible for me to do on my own.

Good quality
A very good quality folding mattress that has nice comfort folded out and folds to create a fairly comfortable folded seat. Good quality durable removable cover.

So much better than an air mattress.
We originally intended for this to be an occasional guest bed but it ended up being used for about 6 months straight as a primary bed. It is firm (which I prefer) and is more comfortable than most beds I've slept on. It is still like new. It does take up a lot of closet space when folded but is worth it for the quality. We use it with a folding bed frame so guests don't have to sleep on the floor. I wish it had a removable slip cover but I just tuck a regular fitted sheet around it. Since it's a foam product I do recommend letting it offgas for a week or two before using.

Comfortable and used often!
We bought this bed as somewhere to sleep when we had our parents come visit. We slept on it for a week and it was comfortable enough - I wouldn't want to sleep on it much longer than that though since it's a bit firm. The couch folds up cute, we have a blanket that matches our normal couch so it looks really nice, and turns out we use it almost everyday. It's really nice having a quick pull out mattress right in the livingroom! I'm really satisfied with it, the quality seems quite good. I would say though, it is NOT memory foam, but i think it's preferable - it keeps its shape as well as firmness level.

Transitioning to floor sleeping
I've recently made a decision to move to the floor for sleeping and sitting after a trip to Japan; I found it to be way more comfortable and, especially with sleeping, it was better for my body. Wasn't exactly sure what to go for when it came to beds, as I live in Canada, so I was just looking for a mattress that folded. This turned out to be way better than I anticipated. This mattress offers a good balance between being soft enough to not be uncomfortable, but not too thick as to lose the firmness of the floor. If you're in the market for a floor mattress this would be a solid bet; closest I've found to a traditional Japanese shikibuton/futon.
