how often do you water tray?

I have a plant resting on the tray. I water the plant about once every three days and the tray fills when I water the plant.

is this considered safe to use for growing leafy vegetables for consumption?

The depth is less than an inch, I’m not sure how well anything would actually grow in the tray. It’s meant to put water in to keep the environment humid around your plant. I have a couple potted succulents that I sent on top of the tray/rocks and can only pour about 1/2 cup of water in at a time or it will overflow. Hope that helps.
