I have had this heater less than a year! I just ordered the plug protector and hooked it up and the heater ha a short somewhere and keeps tripping the GRFI plug, so will have to order another one. It was supposed to be guaranteed for TWO years. How do I get a replacement?

I have had 3. They all trip GFCI eventually- usually after about 6 months of use. My electrician just replaced the entire barn for $4k and they still trip. The electric co has been out and say I am 100% in good shape. It’s this heater, not your electrical.

I have never let it run dry, so I don't know from experience. However, I thought I read some reviews that said that it shuts off if there is no water in the bowl or birdbath. You might go back and take a look at the reviews.

What minimum depth of water in a bird bath is required for safe and effective operation? i have a smallish bath that only ha about a 3/4 inch depth.

I’m not sure, my bird bath is 3” deep when full, it worked fine even when the water level dropped down to less than 1/2 full from evaporation and thirsty birds. This heating element lasted 3 years before it finally quit.

Can I use this in a 1 gallon plastic poultry waterer

We've used this in a 5 gallon plastic bucket for our chickens for several years without much issue. My only real issue is that they begin to rust & form mineral deposits after a could yrs. In all fairness, we've never removed it from the water bucket b/c we use a therm cube which automatically shuts it off, so it might last longer if removed after last frost.
