Traditionally, the MV7 is mounted to a boom arm so that the mic can be positioned in front of a person sitting in a radio or podcast studio. Basically, a shock mount would only be needed, when there is the danger of rumbling noises, vibrations and such. There are a number of good options for boom arms out there, Shure offer a number of bundles that you may get. MV7X needs an interface or a mixer and a XLR to XLR cable. If you want to connect your microphone directly to a MacBook, you are better off with the MV7 that has the USB option in addition to the XLR. Me and my partner share a gaming room and looking for a mic that wont pick each other up in the mics** A: Hi Sophie, it can minimize background noise by pointing the microphone towards your mouth and noise to be cancelled behind the microphone. Since MV7X uses a cardioid polar pattern, it will eliminate noise that is in front of you. So essentially it is a matter of positioning and room reflection. We suggest also treating the room with acoustic panels, if background noise is still bleeding into the microphone when gain setting is as low as possible but as high as necessary.
