Honestly, it will drive a hatchet, but when the hatchet sinks flush with the log this won’t do you any good; because it’s about 3” in diameter. In addition, if the log is open wide enough for this to fit, you will take chunks out of the cast poly material when you inevitably hit the sides, so it wouldn’t last long. Estwing makes a hatchet size splitting maul for cured firewood that’s all steel and is quite durable; it’s not for splitting big logs but it’s way better than a hatchet; or a pocket knife. Check it out. **Q: Is it red or is it blue and yellow?** A: Mine is blue and yellow **Q: This can be used for leatherworking right?** A: I'm not sure, because the dead-blow hammer has a plastic face, whereas leather working tools are metal.
