Vestia Automatic Vacuum Sealing Food Storage Container System (Set of 3) (Motor Included)

I saw this on Amazon and thought what a great idea. You know what I meant if you have experience with similar vacuum storage products like... vacuum seal machines that use plastic bags (inconvenience, eco-unfriendly), or other vacuum containers that use either built-in or detachable manual pumps (a pain to use). I took a chance to buy this product based solely on the photos & videos (no review available at the time of order). I just received it last evening so this review is only on the openbox experience and initial use. On packaging, it came in a nicely printed box with the product packed in an "egg-carton"; all lids and canisters were individually wrapped in plastic bags. On the product itself, it appears to be well made and of high quality. The design fit nicely into our granite and stainless-steel theme modern kitchen. The canisters are made of polycarbonate (good stuff). The lids are made of high quality plastic and are interchangeable between the 3 canisters. The vac unit fits well onto the lids, and attaching/detaching it from the lids was very smooth. There is a white lever on the vac for starting/stopping it, and a red latch for attaching/releasing the vac from the lid. Operation of the vac was super easy, just pop it on, (pump), and pop it off. The pump actually turns itself on when you pop the vac onto the lid, and it turns itself off when done pumping the air. It takes about 30-45 seconds (depends of size of canister) for the vac to get the air out and it stops by itself when done. I was concerned about the noise level but it was not bad at all. It's kind of like the noise from a fish tank/aquarium pump. The big deal for me is that the vac was automatically activated when the pressure inside the canister drops to a certain level. That's important for storing things that are used infrequently. I didn't have this long enough to observe that happen but it works when I simulated the pressure drop by letting out a small amount of air with the white lever. So far, I think this is a winner but time will tell. I will update this review when I have more experience using this product. UPDATE 8/5/2016: We liked these so much we just bought another set. They looked the same except there is a second seal ring on the new lid. Immediately, The lids now stay on even before I pumped the air out with the vac. It also works better when storing powdery stuff, like flaxseed, that I don't have to clean the seal so well to get a good seal. This added second ring kind of sweeps the powder in as you put the cover on. No complaint and probably will buy more to get our pantry further organized.

This is a 5 Star product with 0 star support. If I hear from support - I will modify my review. After multiple attempts to reach the Vestia Customer Support via email and phone AND finding that the motors are out of stock here - I must assume that Vestia Products is out of business. I have called at least 20 times (2 separate incidents 30 days apart). I have emailed 6 or 8 times. My history with Vestia: I have purchased 2 full sets and 2 extra motors. The first set was problem-free. They work great - especially for coffee! This review is for the set. *The second set had an issue with one of the seals. The motor ran through a set of batteries daily. After 2 days, I called support multiple times - no answer - no voice mail. I tried during business hours (listed as 9am - 5pm). I emailed several times. Then, after much reading here - I found the problem: debris around the seal or the top of the canister. I cleaned the seal with a damp cloth, dried it with canned air and did the same to the canister. *Next problem- 2 days ago, I discovered one of the motor/pump units was completely dead. I replaced the batteris - still dead. Again multiple calls to the support number: (888) 629-2525. No answer - No voicemail. I emailed again from 2 different emails (in case one was being blocked as spam). No reply.

One of my sealing mechanism has already stopped working after a couple uses so that's a bummer. Otherwise, it's a good product.

I purchased this to replace my old Foodsaver that I had for close to 7 years. The removable tray makes it much easier to keep clean for either dry or wet food is extremely nice to have. It automatically vacuums and sealed once the pressure was drop. Nicely designed and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. It's a triumph of convenience engineering, and obviously a multi-year investment. No more wasted plastic bags

They don't work and no extract the air

Another reviewer had a problem with this holding the vacuum. I had the same problem on one of mine. Others I had worked great, so I looked more closely and found a tiny hair stuck under the seal. After I got that out, it worked great. I really like the red indicator that lets you see if it's holding the vacuum. And I really like the ability to put the motor right on the container ... and leaving it there if I want to. Anyway, all three of these work great ... including the one that had the hair stuck under the seal. Update: I bought more. These work wonderful for salads - lettuce, slaw, etc. in the refrigerator. I like buying bagged salad. The large bag doesn't cost that much more than a small bag, but I would end up throwing it away. After a couple of days, it would be wimpy, even slimy. Not anymore! After a week in one of these containers, the lettuce was still fresh and crisp.

This product worked well for 18 months. Now the seals have apparently dried out and they lose vacuum requiring the motor to run frequently. I accept the need to replace these seals but after searching diligently for Vestia customer support and after searching for other sources for these seals, there are no replacements to be found. Apparently this is an expensive throw away product. Vestia has not responded to any Amazon complaints. This product should be dropped from Amazon's offerings.
