How do I know if this is the right contactor for my AC unit?

If your old contactor has a 24V Coil and is rated 40A, 30A, or 25A. This 40A model is a heavy-duty upgrade for lower amp units. Rule: Coil voltage must be exact; Amps can be higher, but never lower than your original one.

My air conditioner runs on 220V/240V power. Why does this say "24V Coil"? Will it work?

Yes. The "24V" refers to the thermostat signal (Coil), not the main power, 240V is for the motor. This contactor is rated up to 600V, so it easily handles your 220V/240V AC unit.

Does it matter which wire goes where on the coil? Is there polarity?

No. Since the coil operates on AC (Alternating Current), there is no polarity. You can connect the two low-voltage control wires to the side coil terminals in any order.

Will this fit my [Carrier/Trane/Goodman] unit? The holes need to match.

Yes, in most cases. This contactor uses a universal mounting base. As long as your old unit is a 2-Pole contactor with a 24V Coil, this will fit and function correctly, regardless of the brand (Carrier, Trane, Goodman, etc.)

My old contactor buzzes/hums — will replacing it fix that?
