Why did you pick this product vs others?: I never made a black forest cake before and I did not have all the items that I would need from scratch. This came with everything except for the cherries and the brandy. Easy step-by-step directions, and it tasted great.

Kathi makes some tof the best baking mixes I have ever tried. We have purchase several of these Black Forest mixes and I have to say, they are wonderful. Our family members, coworkers and friends all love when we make another Black Forest cake. Honestly, it has to be one of the best cakes out there, and you can do so many simple twists with the mix to make each time a great experience. Sometimes we will put a little cherry brandy in the mix, other times we use something else, it always tastes great.

This cake is very dense. People comment on it not rising properly. Unlike American cake mixes, this black forest cake mix is not supposed to rise. The density beautifully stands up to the moisture of the cherry filling. I tried this with American mixes which do not hold up to the moisture. The layers slip and slide, particularly when you cut the cake. The cake is not sickeningly sweet, but delicious. I only give this 4 stars because no cake mix should be this expensive!Very

Initially, I purchased two boxes; one for a September birthday cake and the second for a November anniversary Cake. I wanted and hoped both cakes would have three layers each. Soon, I realized that I could not achieve the desired results of the three layers only from one box, and I decided to use the second box too. I wanted to make the layers thicker, to have and feel more cake; the idea was to bake two cakes, half them, and use the three needed layers; for the remaining layer, I planned to cut out some rounds and assemble a mini cake. When I finished my plan and thoughts, I also changed my mind; I had decided to use both cakes to assemble a four-layer single and most remarkable Black Forest Cake For A Special September Birthday! I found the information on the box accurate and followed the directions precisely; most importantly, I focused on baking the sponge to achieve taste and texture; without the Sponge, there would be no cake to assemble. When baking the cakes, I used a Secret item to Level the layer cake; Cake Strips! The cake strips are Essential cake-Baking items; they eliminate the difficulty when staking the cakes. Also, It puts an end to complicated and nonperforming cake Trimming tools or a not-so-steady hand can sometimes be a problem. The Cake strips are a must-Have in one's kitchen for perfectly baked, show-stopping, Special occasion cakes. The Cake strips are reasonably priced and worth it if one is contemplating getting The Frosting Just right. The outcome is extraordinary; a tall but not oversized yet well-proportionate and beautifully decorated Black Forest Cake; is my first Cake Of this kind. Whether one decides to bake a Cake with two or more layers, I Highly recommend the Kathi Brand Cake, and I sincerely believe that if one likes to spend some time in the kitchen, one Can bake a masterpiece for any Occasion from any boxed Cake. I have baked this cake mix before with a box from another vendor, so I know the cake tastes good. This box came re-taped and with the contents leaking out. Not returnable since it’s a food product. Shame on you for dumping an inferior product on the consumer! Amazon needs to pull theses out from stock.

Great taste and true German like Black Forest Cake. As for the product it self, Highly recommend, have always loved all flavors from this line. But….. Received both boxes of cake mix with both being shipped together in a thin plastic shipping sleeve which allowed both boxes to be crushed, totally crushed. One box had a minor leak of the mix packs. Not bad enough to make want of return, don’t know if the shipping package was manufacturer or shipping agent idea but it does need to be shipped and delivered in a box not a plastic sleeve. This product is too good and too hard to get hold of to make such a misguided shipping issue.

The package arrived smashed. Thankfully, done the packages inside opened. The directions on the box were easy to follow. You needed to buy 4 eggs, dark tart cherries ( i used a Oregon brand of can cherries in cherry juice) and heavy whipped cream. This cake birthday was for a friend's birthday. It turned out as special as she is.
