IQ120 BBQ Temperature Regulator Kit for Pit Barrel Cooker

So far so good. Keeps temperature steady. Best way to use is to start your fire In the barrel and let the device bring it up to temp for you. I’m impressed and can’t wait to smoke a Turkey on it for Thanksgiving. Super easy set up. Easy to control.

The temp regulator was an absolute game changer. The unit really takes the guess work out of temperature control and I am saving a noticeable amount of charcoal using IQ120.

Others seem to have no problem controlling the Pit Barrel, but I live in a windy area and the IQ 120 allows me to set and forget the temperature. If you need help with your PBC this is a well made and easy to use accessory.

I have only used this once and it worked nearly flawlessly with a tri tip. Temperature was spot on @ 225F - I could never get that low or precise without this device. It took a bit longer than my previous tri tip cooks, which TBH were too quick. This will also give me much more flexibility for longer/slower cooks. I say nearly because: 1) The open lid detection is either defective or it just takes a long time 2) I didn't feel safe hanging it from the two rebar rods on the Pit Barrel - not a big deal, I placed it on a short table I keep nearby 3) Probe was a little fiddly but I do like the alligator clip. I attached it to one of the grate support pegs, I will try other options the next time. 4) The fan has a shutter mechanism, not much explanation on using that other than to experiment One additional point is the large number of parameters you get to program. I have no present need for two stage cooks - if I had to do something like that in the past, it was easy enough to throw the food on my Weber gas grill.

It's like magic. My cooks now have incredibly stable temperatures. It's amazing.

Decent product, when it works, marred by a company with a bad attitude towards their customers. I had this blower on my smoker. Easy to use, and maintained temps pretty well for the most part. I started to notice it was getting more and more erratic with the temps. I then checked its temp measurements vs. two independent thermoworks thermometers, which many consider to be the best thermometers on the market. These temps both agreed that this product was off the mark by over 50 degrees. I wrote to the company asking them what could be wrong and how to fix it. They sent me back a short message telling me there's nothing wrong with it, but I can buy new thermometers from them if I want, which are frankly overpriced and my unit was still under a warranty (or so I thought). When I countered with the warranty and the fact that two independent thermoworks thermometers said their unit was off, someone (Barb?) sent me another curt email saying they don't take into consideration other thermometers' temps. This is a bit hilarious, in my opinion, given that their own instructions demonstrate them validating their product with some cheap junk Maverick thermometer. So, they can use a $20 thermometer to validate their product, but I cannot second-guess their measurements with two $100+ thermometers. Okay product when it works, terrible customer service.
