What is the silver thin wire made out of?

wow good question I had not noticed it was silver until just now I thought it was copper :) but it is silver an very thin and bendable very pretty and dainty looking O like the lights but the batterys do not last very long it takes 3 AA battery's and granted Ive been getting them at the dollar store but they lights only stay bright for a few days then they will stay dimly lit for a couple of weeks until I replace the batterys. I really thought they would last longer because the are leds.
