The essential book from online tennis coaching sensation Ian Westermann, founder of EssentialTennis.com Whatโs the number one thing stopping you from playing your best tennis? Ian Westermann, founder of the worldโs #1 online tennis instruction portal, Essentialtennis.com, will confidently say itโs an obstacle you probably never thought of: The ball. You might think this sounds ridiculous. The whole point of tennis is to hit the ball over the net and in, so how can the ball be the thing thatโs standing in the way? In fact, this is why the ball is such an impediment: your desire to hit a good shot, with the right mix of power and spin, to a specific spot on the court, prevents you from striking the ball the way you should. In Essential Tennis, readers โ players and coaches, alike -- will learn how improving at tennis actually happens and how to easily implement these lessons and integrate them into better play on the court. Players will hit stronger shots, make fewer errors, and beat players who are currently beating them. Coaches will look differently at what it means to provide a student with a holistic learning experience. Essential Tennis contains technique-based instruction for executing groundstrokes, volleys, and serves, as well as progressions, drills, and mindsets players should incorporate. Westermann illuminates strokes, movement, strategy, and mental toughness โ all proven to be successful over 20 years with clients of all ages and skill levels. Excellent book!
I have watched Ianโs YouTube videos and purchased many classes from him. Ianโs style of teaching is very organized and he gives you practical ways to implement what you have learned into your practice and marches. This book has excellent steps to improve your tennis game with QR codes and plans to implement the steps. The QR code links to short videos that give further explain action and examples. This is the best part of the book! I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about trying to improve their tennis game at any level. Ian makes the improvement strategies easy to understand and fun to put into practice! Well written and enjoyable read! My book arrived damaged and I kept it but now I want a replacement because I know I will read this over and over again and want to keep this in my library for years to come.

A must have in instructionnal tennis books
I really liked how Ian put together a lot of stuff from all the years I've been following him on video. In this book you will definitely find something helpful regardless of your level, but be ready to spend time and effort on the changes you are hoping to make in your game, because there is no magical shortcut!

succinct, practical, technique-focused. brilliant
I've read a few tennis books over the past 2yrs. This one focuses on key elements of technique and contains several simple drills that help train your muscles/body to swing fluidly and learn good tennis technique. I absolutely love Galway's inner game of tennis - but that book is about mentality/mind. This book teaches the basics of stroke technique and has some fantastic drills for priming your body to hit the ball properly. After practicing one of these drills (as demonstrated in companion videos) my technique instantly improves a little. Mini-tennis... the book is worth reading for that alone. I like this book because I am keen to improve at club level, and it provides solid drills for doing so - from which I have already seen a lot of evidence in my game.
