Q: Can i buy just the lid and basket for use with my own standard mouth mason jars? i only see the small basket/straw on microbiota's catalog.

It is difficult for me to answer whether there is an option to buy only the lid with the basket. I bought the jar, lid and basque 0.6 liter options, and I bought a 1 liter jar taking into account the size of the lid. Works perfectly.

Q: does this jar lid fit standard sized mason jars or just the jar it comes with?
