Review: I'll give it 5 stars solely based on price (compare to RIDGID)! - I used to have access to the larger, thicker steel tape with the REAL roller ball tip. I paid a little over $50 for this tape - the only thing comparable that was truly heavy duty I could find was the RIDGID brand, and it does have the real heavy duty roller ball tip on one end, and a different style tip on the other end. This Cobra brand isn't as thick as the RIDGID models, but the RIDGID costs SIX TIMES AS MUCH! I've seen claims of the Cobra's thickness being 1/16" and also 3/64", for a little over $50 plus tax. The RIDGID 50' x 3/4" x 1/16" tape was listed for a few cents less than $300! The RIDGID 50' x 3/4" x 1/8" flat steel tape was listed for almost $445! It's twice as thick, but REALLY? RIDGID's 100' x 3/4" x 1/8" and their 100' x 1" x 1/8" (wider) tapes both listed for almost $685, while Cobra's 100' x 3/4" x 1/16" tape is a little less than $70! (I couldn't find a thickness spec for the 100' Cobra, but I'm guessing it's the same as their 50' tape.) Way to go Cobra! There's no doubt in my mind this will work just fine for my purposes, and I'll never have to buy another one. It's heavy enough, and the price is right! My only slight disappointment was the "roller" tip doesn't roll very well, and I realize that a functional roller can be a helpful feature on long runs of pipe. With that amount of gain the tape ate through the hard packed clog in a reasonable amount of time. The tape reasonably priced, easy to use, of good quality, is durable and works as expected. I don't know how/where the pipes bend. How do I control this? Does it attach to a drill?** A: The cobra works best on larger lines. So long as the bends are in the same plane as the flat of the cobra, it will go through it. The cobra is a hand held (cannot be attached to a power tool) pipe clearing tool which can do excellent work so long as the line is a larger pipe (such as a 2-1/2" or larger ID). It has the advantage of giving you the ability to 'feel' a clog, and you succeed by basically 'pounding' your way through. As most clogs in household sewer lines are of hair, grease, and laundry lint, it will break though 90- 95% of the time. If you hit a solid bend it can't follow, you'll know it, as it'll hard stop, but you'll feel clogs `giving'. I would advise purchasing some heavy duty industrial grade pipe cleaner from your local hardware or lumber yard. It is usually sold in half gallon or gallon sizes. If you can get that down into the line first, allow it to work for several hours, and then use the cobra. Otherwise start with the cobra to punch a small hole through the clog then use the drain cleaner. The drain cleaner will not damage the cobra by my experience to date. ALSO, once you do get the line open, pour as much hot water into the line as hot as your water heater will deliver it as a finale wash. Be sure to rinse off the cobra, wipe it clean, and oil it after you wrap it back up. Note: This is dirty, mucky work; you'll need gloves, clothes you can get filthy, and goggles if you work with the chemicals. ALSO, vent your basement (sewer area), as the chemicals can react strongly to clogs and produce un-breathable gases. Conclusions: the Cobra is an effective pipe clearing tool, but not the only one available.
