solar lights
Good value - good light long lasting. A little tricky to install as they did not fit on my fence posts butwe managed

Good for me
A YEAR LATER... lights started to not light up 4 months after installation. That was disappointing, as it made my fence look ridiculous w some lights on and some off. Re-reading some of the comments someone had said that they replaced the batteries with new rechargeable solar ones. As much as I didn't want to spend more money, I ended up doing that. That really did the trick though. I charged the batteries around November and they are still working great now in mid May. One light, however, was not lighting up. I took it off the base and noticed that most of the solar cell was covered with bird poop. So, I hosed it down and that did the trick. The lights lit were up even during the wintertime, with snow on top, here in WNY.Only problem I have is that we had 100mph gails last winter and it blew one of the lights off. The two tabs on the base of the light, that go on the post, had broken off with the strong winds. With one other post, my kids were playing basketball in the driveway and the ball knocked one the lights off, which also broke the tabs. The lights still work fine. It's just the tabs I'm having issues with. Before I purchased the lights I saw a comment from someone else about this. He/she said they had contacted the manufacturer to see if they only sold the base part. Apparently, they don't. I really don't want to buy more as the lights still work. It's just the weak tab.=======================True, they are made out of a light plastic. True, they are not very bright. However, they look good once installed and look even better once they’re lit up at night. I was advised not to put the lights on the posts along the driveway where the basket ball hoop is located until our teenage son leaves the house (several years from now) so that the ball doesn’t ’t break them when it hits them. Before storing the lights away I realized that I could still install them, twist the top off, put them away from the hoop temporarily and just leave the cap on the post whenever boy is shooting some hoops. Granted, they could still get broken, but this way the target is smaller. My son has learned how to put the top back on once he’s done playing. So far, nothing broken. Good deal.

Not great
They don't light up very much unless it is a really sunny day so don't think I will see them much all fall and winter

Love these lights
These are a great 'decorative' top to your posts, which is what I wanted. They are not super bright like a porch light, but they are not made for that purpose, but well worth it for this price. They do throw enough light to make it safer to walk up the 4 steps to our front door. And they provide that nice winter twinkle. I read the previous reviews, and everyone who said they didn't work well at first, once they replaced the batteries they worked fine. (Be sure and get "rechargeable" batteries) I did same. Who knows how long the batteries that came with them were there? I was also concerned because mine are in the front of the house which is shaded all day, so no direct bright sun hitting them as they are solar recharging. But they still charge fine. They turn off all day and stay on all night. There ARE made of hard plastic (not glass) and a little fragile, sturdy enough for their purpose, but you wouldn't want to drop them. The little plastic tabs where the lamp part attaches to the base must be put together gently, but they come apart easily to change batteries, and there is an on/off switch inside. Also, I wanted them to fit the top of my 4x4 post exactly and they fit perfectly. If you look carefully at the specs you will see a lot of these type of lamps mounting bases are larger than 4x4, like 4x6. I didn't want them sticking out past the top edge of the post. They come with screws to secure them to the post. I've only had them a month, but so far I am very happy, and I just ordered the same brand of posts with stakes to go into the ground, to put along the path to the porch.

Look good, and work well.
Plastic feels a little cheap but they were easy to install. The light could be a tad brighter but is nice enough at night. Worked right out of the box, they only get sun for half the day but come on every night and stay lit for five to six hours. Will see how well they survive the winter, but for now they look great, work well and were a good value.
