Is there some sort of lid that can be put in place of the filter cone after brewing?

No however this is a nice coffee pot. I usually use a cone insert as a bit of sediment can drip through and with the additional filter works great, actually sometimes I just position a piece of papertowl Coffee has a nice clean flavor I've had other pour over drip tops so for this is my favorite.

So sorry for the delay, in answering your question. However, if no one else has already provided the answer to your question, I can tell you that there is no lid and the diameter is 4 in. It is a small pot.

Espresso: will this filter catch espresso grinds?

yes it will... pour slowly to avoid spillage with the finer grinds. there maybe some settling of solids a bit on the super fine but not enough to make it nasty. imo
