Not just a kids treat, also best customer service experience in years!
After using this every day for about 5 months a part broke inside my unit. I sent an email to ask if I could just buy a part so I didn't have to purchase a new unit and to my dismay, they apologized and sent me a brand-new unit. There was no discussion of what I did to cause this to happen or anything else. I sent a copy of my purchase through amazon and a picture of the sticker on the back and that's it. (Insert standing ovation) Major thanks to a truly amazing company. Now let me tell you why I use this pretty much every day. As far as the machine goes, it produces some of the best shaved ice/snow cones I have ever had. The last unit required a fair amount of strength as you had to push down on the ice & it was pretty loud. This new small black unit is so much easier to use. All you do is push a single button and it does the rest. Now there is a trick to getting your perfect serving. If you like true shaved ice, think eating fresh powdery snow, very soft and fluffy but melts somewhat quickly when you add syrup, 1st refrigerate your syrup so it's not as warm and 2nd use the ice disks right out of the freezer. This gives you a nice shave of the ice and it almost looks like white cotton. Now I happen to like more of a snow cone texture where I can chew on the small ice pieces. The trick here, let your ice disk warm up. Yup, as strange as it sounds take the disk out of your freezer and let it set for 10 to 20 min depending on how warm your room is. The disk will easily slip out of the mold and you will get a texture that is a lot more course than if you use it right out of the freezer. Both of these tips require you to use the white molds that are sold by Hawaiian shaved ice. Trust me, they are worth it. Yes you can use any ice cube your freezer makes but if you want to get your perfect snack get the disk's and experiment with how long you let them defrost before turning them into a fantastic snack. This last hack is only for people who eat a lot of these. Your snow cone is only as good as your water. If you don't drink what comes out of your tap don't use it to make ice. There can be a big difference in taste using purified water over tap. On a side note, this has replaced ice cream as my go to after dinner snack and I have lost about 20 lbs just eating shaved ice as a snack when I want something sweet. Red Cups make the perfect vessel to hold my favorite treat. ...and you can make them in advance. I just put a little plastic wrap over the top. They never last more than a few days in my freezer but I'm sure you could make some each day if you have a big party coming on the weekend.

Excellent ice shaver!! Well made and sleek design.
Purchased as a gift for my son and his fiancรฉ. They loved the shaved ice in Hawaii. I researched shaved ice machines and this came in as #1 and they agree. They had a different manufacturer and rave about this one. Simple to use and change the blade shaving ability. Easy to clean. Sleek design stores easily on a counter or in a cabinet.

Original model (S900A) vs this one
I've had the S900A (the white one) for a few years now, and generally liked it, but it was noisy and I would have liked the shaved ice to be a bit more fluffier. I used cubes from the fridge icemaker which may have contributed to this. Saw this "upgraded" one and thought I would give it a try. It does make fluffier shaved ice, and is quieter. I am using the included containers for making the ice pucks. Found that if the container is filled with too much water, the resulting ice puck is too tall for the machine, and the motor assembly can't be locked in and operate. So I fill the containers to just shy of the 'max' line. It makes less snow per container, but at least the machine will work. So if you have several people wanting shaved ice, you better have all six containers frozen ready to go; or even buy more containers. On the S900A, there needs to be some manipulation of the motor portion to get the ice to shave properly; on this machine, due to the spring-loaded part of the motor pushing down on the ice, you get more even shaving and thus better snow. And being able to adjust the knife is a plus. If this model was available when I bought my first one, would I have bought it over the cheaper one? Yes. But since I already had the S900A, was this worth the price of upgrade? Probably, due to the quieter operation and more consistent snow quality.

Snow cone machine
Our entire family loves this snow cone machine. It's easy to clean very durable. It makes the ice very very fluffy, but you can also adjust the texture of your ice which are family love because we all like different textures. Great great product

Itโs alright
It does produce really nice shaved ice! The problem I have is with how much each block of ice it shaves. So it comes with 5 trays to freeze. When you use 1 it mostly only shaved half the block of ice. Then it struggles to shave anymore of it. So you have to use 2 of the trays and sometimes 3 to get even 1 full serving. And itโs pretty clunky to switch out and add another ice block. So overall it works and the ice shave is good, but the design is just bad and pretty annoying to work with. Absolutely not worth $100โฆ $40 at best. Would not recommend unless you donโt mind the hassle.

Worked for a month, started falling apart
Edit: 4 days after the return window closed, the machine started puting out larger pieces of ice so I looked and one of the special screws to hold the blade was missing. I searched all over the kitchen and cannot find it. Company suggested a hardware store might help and would not send me a screw or even sell one.. Ace Hardware couldn't find anythng that would fit the screw threads right and go in. Amazon was kind enough to let me return the unit anyway. Cannot recommend this company at all. Original review: Once you get the blade adjustment where you want it (not easy as it simply screws/unscrews, no set positions) and have a proper ice puck which hasn't "domed", it works really well. The "domed" pucks are a constant problem though and while the booklet says to simply put them flat side down, it just doesn't always work, even with fiddling with the blade adjustment (frustrating after getting it just where you want it and it works well on other pucks). Other cons are the need to lift the entire motor mechanism off and take the ice cup out to remove the leftover bit (I've taken to just letting it melt back into one of the ice moulds and reusing the water). Be careful of the cord when lifting the top of the machine off, it can have a tendency to want to go into the bottom part of the machine too. I get such perfect fluffy snow though, which makes wonderful, straw-able slushes similar to Icee brand consistency, that it's just one of those situations.. if you want the perfect snow quick, then you have to put up with the machine's quirks. I think I'll stick with it. Already returned a Cuisinart model because it was giving large pieces of ice and had no adjustable blade.

Amazing for Kids
Makes excellent shaved ice for snow cones at home! The ice is incredibly soft. The molds it comes with are easy to use, and for large parties, I simply freeze the discs days in advance and keep extras in ziplocks in the freezer. I was able to make 20+ snowcones in under 20 minutes while hosting. One block makes a good single serving of shaved ice, if not a little more! We have loved it.

this works! makes great ice! Use your own syrups and toppings.
Went to Maui at Easter. Was craving Hawaiian Shaved ice and something tells me that with 150$ per night resort fee's on top of 5 different taxes and a loaf of bread 9$ US, it might be a while before I return SO did a little research and ordered this highly rated machine. Read about the unit on my phone's daily news then looked it up. At first the unit was $200. I waited for Amazon prime day. Unit was $260. Should have bought it right away. It took a while to get to me. Box was all beat up when it did. US ? Canada mail? It was not sent by courier. Unit worked so I didn't have to contact seller. Very happy with the product. It makes great ice. I use high quality syrups and love this unit. Many uses. You can not over fill the molds or freeze them at an angle or unit will not close properly and lock shut. It is plastic and suspect but so far has held up. Anyway I use it all the time. Twice a day for me. Kids and wife do some too but I am addicted to Hawaiian shaved ice now! My favourite is Monin's Passion Fruit syrup with a couple spoons of sweetened condensed milk. If I drank oh, the possibilities! Can also be used to make slushes and slurpee type ice. I hope the unit keeps working and does not break. It seems a little flimsy but so far so good. The motor is in the top of the unit and the ice goes in a cup compartment the blade is in the bottom and has a finger screw thickness adjustment. You can get very fine slivers of ice like a wood plane. It's pretty amazing. I'm endorsing it! If it breaks I will update the review but I can not tell a lie. It is really fun and a happy part of my day every day. So many different flavours!

Worth every penny
My grandkids love it. They make snow cones and enjoy the fluffy texture of the ice. You do have to use ice cubes in order to make the shaved ice, but that is a minor detail. Itโs worth every penny.

Its good but not great
Not exactly what I thought unless I pre-freeze the ice blocks can only make 4-5 at a time. Daughter still likes making shape ice. Itโs easy to use.
