Drive failure after 1yr.
WAPOS. Had this for just over a year with data piled onto both drives (configured independently according to instructions), then right outside of the 'Exchange/Refund/Warranty' time period, one of the 2TB drives failed. Tried to troubleshoot using Seagate support (another joke) their recovery software would not even see the drive. Now all data on that drive is lost and I would bet it's only a (short) matter of time before the other one goes out. Configuring software and USB key setup never worked as the manual indicates - possible I just got a defective unit from the start but if the other reviews are very accurate, it seems I am not the only one. I would recommend doing more research on other NAS solutions before buying this POJ. UPDATE 1/7/2016: 2nd drive just failed yesterday. $400 and a ton of data, down the drain...

Product has minor bugs, Customer care worst ever
I purchased this item, and within a month I lost connection to the keys. I am in IT and performed some checks. Ensured my router had not changed, although they tout that you do not need to open ports. At any rate, I finally submitted a ticket on 12/26/12, it is now 3/1/13 and I have had a grand total of 5 responses, to my 14 updated posts in the ticket. Of those only 3 were directional in an effort to help and Despite giving them everything I could, the first response was within a few days, the second was 35 days and me bumping the ticket 5 times. The third was the same day as the second, the 4th was a week later and the last was 8 days later. I have not had a response since then and its been over a week. The last thing they asked me to do was reset my router to default settings. Really? Reset my router, I host multiple sites and can not afford to reset my router because of a conflict in the ditto. In the end, I incorporated some assistance from another IT friend and we narrowed the issue down. We found it was indeed a programming glitch with the ditto and determined a solution. It had nothing to do with my network, which was all the ditto team focused on, they were resistant that it could possibly even be the ditto itself. And here we are, a week without a response, I solved the issue on my own after wasting a dozen hours of my time on a product that touts itself as self setting. As such, I can not recommend this product, not because the product itself isn't good, but because if you have any issues, they are in no hurry to care about helping you resolve it. It could easily get dragged beyond warranty time and leave you with a very costly paperweight. I will keep and use it as I intended and feel more comfortable knowing what I now know. I will not post it here because I do not feel they should benefit from my work, but if anyone has a similar issue with connecting outside your network, email me on amazon and I will get you fixed right up, I bet I do it in considerably less time than them. I have noticed increasingly poor customer care the last couple of years, some still go above and beyond to make it right, but some just do not care to be bothered after they get your money. Its really to bad, this had potential, excellent ground breaking potential. To fail due to customer care is quite sad.

Pleased but not delighted
March 2011, I purchased the 4TB unit in Feb. and have used it for about a month. The product probably should get 5 stars because it's easy to setup and use as described. I'm using Raid1 (2TB mirrored) and counting on the server being a primary backup for our home computers and a remote access for our family away from home. The internal drives are Hitachi which were manufactured in 2009, so half the Hitachi warranty was over when received. My Ditto only has a 1 yr warranty which I consider short. myDitto is currently working fine and my son's family is using it from MKE as well. There are some short comings which caused me to give this 4* instead of 5* 1. The unit is shipped with only a quick start guide and you need to download the user manual from the website. [โฆ] And the manual is the only place to explain administrative functions. It is also incomplete. 2. Technical support is very weak. The support website is non-functional as I waited 3 days for no response to questions. You will be able to get a slow email response to questions to the contact support url above. There is no support phone number or address, but I obtained this: DANE-ELEC USA 15770 Laguna Canyon Road, #100 Irvine, California 92618 USA Phone: (877) 428 2363 (from inside the US) | Phone: +1 949 450 2970 [email protected] 3. Do not use the Master Key on your first use of myDitto with an Id other than "admin". I did and the unit created a user account which it paired with the Master Key invalidating its use for administrative functions. After several weeks support finally emailed that I needed to create a new Master Key on a virgin USB flash drive. These keys get paired with an ID and cannot changed to a new ID (I didn't try reformatting a key). 4. Admin functions are limited. e.g. you can't limit space usage by users. 5. I've had some Raid errors which I did get fixed using the Raid Fix button in advanced services. But I couldn't get the button to appear once and emails didn't resolve until I cold booted the server. The unit has been solid for over a week. 6. I'm using XP SP3 and can only do a Windows backup to the Public folders. I'd rather do it my private ID folder, but don't have a solution for this yet. In spite of all this, I like the myDitto unit. It is a good value at Amazon's price. But I don't have 100% confidence in it yet. Only time will tell. Chicago

Not perfect
The connection is not stable. Sometimes I have to restart the server in order to reconnect. I have never succeeded to connect to the server by Mobile with Android and iPhone4s. The support is not good. No one gives me response for my question.

no mega dittos for MY DITTO
I bought this because it had higher ratings than other NAS home units on Amazon, it's supposed to be easier to use than others. Am not a tech professional but have set up my own networks, reconfigured PCs, etc. So far this experience is very poor. PROS 1.The unit looks nice...white with lots of flashing blue LEDS. 2.The unique "key" system does allow set up w/o making changes to your network set up or firewall. 3. See below, and update: once you get the thing up and running w/all your files backed up, and you figure out how to use the app, it works as advertised. CONS: 1. The instructions do not follow logical order, setup was very confusing. I hadn't even typed in my password(let alone twice to verify), yet it created the account, then prompted me for the password I never created. Had to re-initialize the USB key and start all over. RAID configuration was not very clear, but it did finally get configured as RAID 1. 2. The Backup. maybe they went overboard in making it simple. There are basically no backup options, very few logs or signs of progress. I have roughly 1 TB of data on my PC which is hooked up via cable to the router. I started my backup on Monday morning. Today is Wednesday night. Am still only 1/3 through. This absurd wait is not due to slowness of the network...edit: It took about 7 days to backup 1 TB with the NAS configured in RAID 1. It seems as if the backup system has a mind of its own as to when to start and stop. It cannot be changed. It times itself out frequently, even when there is no other network traffic or PC usage. Note, I do not have my network or PC set to time out or go to sleep. Maybe once you do your initial backup and are only doing a few MB or a GB or two a day, that will be fine. This is not. I would like to have a setting: Give thge *&%$^%* backup priority and(*(^%$ get it done. 3. Support. I still don't know if this unit is behaving normally with the 4 day backup. By the time this is over, it will be Thanksgiving here in the USA I sent a help message to My -ditto a couple of days ago and have received no reply. I guess the last reviewer was accurate in complaining about no support. UPDATE: I have increased rating to 3 stars to be fair and provide better advise for buyers. I got a fairly rapid response to a second customer service request. They got back to me in about 24 hours and solved my problem Once the initial backup of my hard drive was completed, the NAS has been working smoothly. As I said, the backup is meant to work in the background and offers very little customization or reporting. I have "checked" to make sure that my new data is getting backed up and it is, so I can go ahead with confidence. The unit does have a hum as others noted, but unless you are in a silent room and are listening for it, it is not a bother. Despite bad reviews on the Android app store, the Smartphone app works very well as far as accessing my files from the phone. I can easily open up a word doc or small jpg photo. I don't know how often I will need this, but was pleasantly surprised. The one function I cannot vouch for is the capability to stream music or video from the NAS to other computers or the phone. I do not store any music on my PC and will not use that function.

Best FS solution for home/small business setup
I've had many bad expriences with external hard disks in the last 7 years. All my disks were made by Western Digital and none of them lasted more than 2 years. I was looking for something that was easier to install and use. Read the review of 'myditto' decided to buy it. Installation is truly a breeze. I love the key concept. Makes file storage/sharing secure. Only time will tell about the logetivity of the unit but i am hoping that setting the conifguration to RAID1 will give me redundancy. I feel that a lot of small business will find this system very useful.

Great idea, mediocre execution
This review refers to 1TB (1HDD) version. Bought it last week together with additional 2x2TB Seagate drives. Here are the main points: 1) Initial setup was a breeze. Both keys worked, I was able to log on to each PC/iOS device - great. 2) After one day of burn-in test the main master key somehow reset itself and I was asked to reauthorise it. It took me about 2 hrs to finally get my admin access back - main thing, the manual - it just sucks. I'm not sure how I managed to do it but at the moment my master (grey) key became a regular user key and the regular key (white) is my new master even though I didn't even reinitialise it! WTF? 3) I've decided to put my new 2TB drives in and go RAID1. If you think that Dane-Elec provides mounting screws for the empty hdd bay, THINK AGAIN. Apparently they assume we all have spare hdd mounting screws and don't need more. WTF? 4) User account issues. I'm running Win7, XP and iOS and all devices are on the same network. I can't, for the love of my life, make the thing work without having to use the keys. And even if I do it is intermittent. I was hoping I can map the drives and forget about the thing but it seems that this isn't what Dane-Elec wants us to do. They want us to use the crappy software. And what's worse it times out! I was transferring over 100GB of data over to myDitto and it timed out in the middle of transfer because it thought I'm not doing anything. And when it timed out it corrupted the file that was being transferred at the time. WTF?? 5) It is slow, even over gigabit ethernet I didn't manage to go over 12 MB/sec. Shame but not a surprise.
