All about the orientation of the hinge
This is a best trainer for my particular swing flaw, and I identified my problem immediately. I was hooding the club during the backswing, and my club face was closed at the top (pointing towards the sky). It's not really about breaking the hinge though. The key to mastering this device to swinging in a way that keeps the hinge oriented in a way that it cannot possibly break. I could draw a line on the top of the club shaft with a marker, and it would essentially accomplish the same thing as this device. However, the hinge is a great way to stop you mid-swing and identify your specific problem area. For example, the hinge breaks in line with the face of the club. Therefore, when you get to the top, if your club face is open or closed, the hinge is going to fall open because the club face is pointing to the ground or to the sky. However, if you have the club face in a neutral position at the top, the club face will be pointing straight out in front of you (parrallel to the ground), and the hinge can't possibly break. This is because gravity is pushing vertically, but the hinge can only break horizontally. Once I was able to grasp that, everything just clicked for me. All of my strikes were a lot more pure, and I gained distance on almost every club. If your particular hang up is swing path (This will do nothing for grip, alignment, body rotation, etc), this is the best trainer to use, hands-down. If you would pay $100 to fix your golf swing, this is well worth the price. What's even better is that I can keep it around to give my swing a refresher course if I ever feel off plane again, especially after winter break. This trainer does force you to swing slow until you get used to it. Once you get the hang of it though, the only part of your swing that feels slow is the takeaway. Your takeaway will always have to be slow, or the hinge will break. The inertia from moving the club from a resting position is just too much for the hinge to handle. However, it helps you compartmentalize your takeaway training, so it's definitely not a bad thing. Besides the takeaway, the rest of the swing I can make at my normal speed. I can easily hit balls with this club now, after enough practice. The only problem I have with this trainer is that if you swing slow enough, any swing will work, which could further your issues if you don't identify it. The first thing I would recommend doing when you get this club is loosening the hinge even more so it breaks even easier. That will force your training to be even more rigorous, and leave no doubt that you are swinging correctly. Outside of that, 5 stars. Easily worth the price.

Better than driver
I bought both the driver and the 5 iron. I have not played in 18 years, but when I did I played to a 14 handicap, mid 80s. I always knew that I used a flat swing for the log clubs and an upright swing for the short clubs. I was determined to come back with a consistent swing for all clubs. The five iron quickly showed me why the upright works for all clubs. I tried working with both but found I could identify problem areas quicker with the 5 iron. In no time I was making 4 out of 5 swings without the club breaking. I also wanted to concentrate on tempo and speed. The take away is the key. I found that moving the hands first putting the back side of my left hand flat and outside was the objective but the way to get there without breaking the head was to start everything with the left knee. That makes all the difference in the worrld, ...for me. I am now concentrating on the speed and tempo. Good Luck!

Medicus iron
I appears to have somewhat helped my swing. I was really fast on my takeaway and the club has slowed me down and improved my accuracy. I will need more time working with the club to see if it significantly improves my game.

A must have!
I used this club over 25 years ago to help my swing and it did, with the help of the medicus and several golf instructors I was able to get my handicap down into the low teens. Life changes - a child, work and before I knew it, over 10 years had gone by and I hadn't played a single round of golf. This summer (2017) I was on vacation and was invited to play and it was not pretty, my swing was non-existent a very embarrassing experience. When I returned home I went to the driving range several times and just could not get my swing back - So I ordered the Medicus 5-iron. after receiving the club I returned to the driving range and after three visits it started coming back (my swing). This last weekend I broke 90 for the first time in over 10 years. If you need help with the timing, speed and feel of your swing give this club a try.

These training clubs work
This is the third one I purchased over the years. I can't say how much they helped my swing. The first one I bought was a 7 iron and it really made a difference in my iron game. I lost it in Katrina and ordered the driver after recovery. Again my driving improved. My wife gave me the 5 iron for my birthday and it really helps my swing. It doesn't take a lot of practice with these clubs to see an improvement. It will quickly open your eyes to you swing issues.

Definitely not the quality of the original Medicus
I was loaned the original Medicus 5 iron which I found to be of great benefit to my golf game (currently I'm an 11 handicap). I felt it improved my ball striking so much that I purchased one for myself and one as a gift. Unfortunately, I had to return both clubs because the lower hinge had far too much play (waggle) even with the hinge tightened to the point that it wouldn't bend under force. Even with the hinges fully tightened, the club shafts had a significant bend in them when held horizontally because there was approx. 3" to 4" of play in the club head (see photo). This made it feel like you were holding a broken club when addressing the ball. With the original Medicus, the club shaft remains perfectly straight when held horizontally, as long as the hinges aren't set excessively loose, of course. Furthermore, the original Medicus feels like a normal golf club when swung correctly. This model doesn't at all feel like a normal club. I ended up returning these and purchasing 2 of the older model. Although they were used, it's obvious that they are of much better quality. I don't see how anyone could find this club beneficial. The only reason I gave it a second star is because the seller was very easy to communicate with and was quick to offer me a refund. Other than that, very disappointing.

Not for beginner golfers
Best golf aid around to groove both tempo and swing plane problems. There are a few other things this helped me with, but I find trying to explain them in technical terms difficult. Let me just say that it works for me. Probably not the best to for the beginning golfer; that would have to be lessons, if you are serious about learning the game. This is for those of us that have been playing for a while and started developing some bad habits. Instant feedback is always the most helpful, to me at least. It's also great that you can actually hit real golf balls with it on the range.

No hook
I loved this product in that it helped me have the correct path. I tend to hook the the ball quite a bit, this controlled it.

Works as advertised
It definitely works as intended, taught me to control my tempo and form better and even used it to hit balls at a driving range for practice. It doesn't take too long to get used to however, was expecting it to be a much more difficult club to get used to. For reference, I started learning golf 2 months ago.
