great product to differentiate gemstones. you should have some basic knowledge to use this tester. The item arrive with the box a bit dented and the item did not work correctly. I reported it to the seller who was very communicative. A new item was shipped out immediately and works good. great seller and great communication. thank you.

This is the SECOND SmartPro tester I’ve purchased in just over three years, and unfortunately I’ve had the same experience both times. The tester works well when it’s functioning, but neither unit lasted very long before becoming unusable. What makes it even more frustrating is the lack of customer support. I’ve contacted SmartPro multiple times, followed their troubleshooting requests, and each time communication eventually stopped with no resolution. As a professional jewelry seller, I need tools I can rely on. It’s a shame because the tester performs well when it works, but in my experience it becomes an expensive paperweight far too quickly. After two failures and no meaningful support, I cannot recommend it. Such a shame because this company has products I was very interesting in trying but I will take my money somewhere else.

This product performs reliably, is straightforward to use, and easy to clean. Its noise-free operation, accuracy, and clear readability provide confidence with any type of jewelry. I also appreciate the convenience of purchasing it online.

I read the reviews before purchasing, and decided it was still worth a try. Read the directions, all of them! Be sure to calibrate, use clean dry stones, and most importantly watch temperatures. At first the readings were wonky for the same gem. Back to the instructions…temperature! The house is cold, the stones even colder. I washed and throughly dried my hands and used them to warm gems one at a time. Spot on for every gem! I waited about a minute in between each gem. My recommendation is to pay attention to temperature, and pace for accuracy. (operator errors) I hope this review helps with your decision to buy this product.

4 stars right now.It seems to be accurate>Checked a few known things and it worked,Fairly easy to use.Real small tip kinda hard to be exact putting it on the stone and not touching the setting.Better eyes than mine would make it easier.All in all.as I said,seems to work pretty good.Read the directions first.The reason I bought this is first off,the rating and reading reviews,the second is the cheaper ones, you get what you pay for and this one was good rated and price seemed to be inline with something that would work.I will be checking a lot of known gems and really check the accuracy and update this rating as needed,UPDATE--it got whacky,,no sound,blue warm up lights only worked occasionally .Needle points to glass just by waving the pen around.Never zeroed after a test.My light bulb tested quartz.,Returned for another to try,Not too sure about this product,,UPDATE-This machine goes to blue lights,sometimes..It will stay on glass reading most of the time,The needle moves just by moving the wand around,May just be me,but not sure I trust it.I know it is not a $1000 dollar laboratory gem machine but for the price seems it should be more accurate,I got it now so I will keep trying to use it.

Gotta say...we purchased the Presidium tester and it came non calibrated and worked for about 3 days. We are now returning it. The Smartpro arrived today which we were able to test and it worked out of the box! You can see by the photo to that there is a major difference in quality and size. It also has a fantastic little manual for which the other unit does not. So, we will test with it for awhile and give it a go. I will update this review if we end up having to return it as well.

DO NOT PURCHASE!! The unit that I received was completely non functional right away, it never even calibrated correctly. And now the company will not honor even a return becaise I no longer have the box, they have ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE and they will straight up take your money and ignore you. FOUR THUMBS DOWN 👎👎👎👎

I own a jewelry store and use it to test stones that I buy. I also use it to test for the customers. I like how easy it is to use. It does need to be calibrated with each use, but that is not too much of a big deal once you get use to it.
