I had an earlier version of this can -- I think the only difference is that the older one had a black plastic lid. It cost an outrageous amount when I bought it about 8 years ago, but I'd forgotten how exorbitant these things are until the tabs on the lids broke off and we had to buy a new one.* It's far more expensive, and far more beautiful, than any trash can has a right to be.As much of a splurge as this is, it's so worth it if it's going anywhere where anyone will see it. Because let me tell you, this thing is gorgeous in person. The quality is as obvious not only when you look at it, but when you use it. It just doesn't make sense to furnish your kitchen beautifully, carefully select the countertop material, the faucet, the sink, etc, and then cheap out on a plastic monstrosity from Wally World that'll get stained in a gross rainbow of uncleanable browns after a few months of use. This lovely item will hold its beauty for at least 8 years of hard use -- ours certainly did -- and it works whisper-quietly, closing with surgical precision that muffles virtually all kitchen-waste stench.I do have one complaint. The item comes with sample "simplehuman" kitchen trash bags. They're lovely, but why on earth would I buy them when I can get excellent trash bags at Costco for a fraction of the price? Well, (they're probably hoping), because regular tall kitchen can bags are a little shallow for this can. They fit fine, but they're a bit "short-sheeted" -- they don't quite reach the bottom of the can. Nevertheless, they work okay, and that's what we use. Maybe you can recoup a bit of the exorbitant cost that way too...*After dealing with simplehuman recently to get replacement parts for an old item of theirs, I have since realized that I could probably have simply bought replacement lids and kept the old can, and saved a C-note. Oh well. Perhaps someone reading this can learn from my mistake.

It's a garbage can and it's expensive. However, it is unique and excellent quality. Looks and performs better and smoother than anything similar. Completely pet proof since there is no lip for noses to get under to flip up to get access to the contents. This was the main reason we wanted to try this can. The lid is flush, fits perfectly, and there are little thoughtful details that you didn't know would be helpful. We also have the dry food dog can which was also expensive, but we never regretted our purchase. It has been a couple of years, and performs as it did from day one. Also very high quality, with thoughtful important details not available with similar products.

First, I must say that I almost never write product reviews but this trash can is amazing and has saved me from having to clean up after my dog every day or keeping the garbage can on a kitchen counter so that he couldn't get to it! I never wanted to spend over $ 100.00 for a garbage can, but I have to tell you it is worth every penny.I had ordered the 10 gallon model but found it was too big for a New York City sized kitchen, so I returned it and purchased the 8 gallon model, which is the perfect size for my kitchen.It is very attractive looking, sleek and modern and does not leave fingerprints. The butterfly mechanism opens very easily by the foot pedal and it's even a kick to watch it close so smoothly with no noise when you take your foot off the pedal.My dog can't figure out the pedal (he is a 25 lb. Shiba Inu), nor can he figure out how to open thecan from the top. Also, it is heavy enough, that he can't knock it over. I suppose bigger dogs may try, but in that case I would buy the bigger model of this garbage can.I have owned it for three weeks and it's a joy to leave left-overs, papers, and other debris in the can until it is full and not worry that the contents will be dragged all over the kitchen and living room.All I can say folks, is that I am so pleased with this purchase and am thrilled it was able to solve the problem with my dogs "garbage hunting" habits. I say don't hesitate to purchase this, I don't think you will be sorry.

This is by far the favorite can of trash we've had in our family, and we've had a few. I remember when I used to walk up hill to school in the snow and Simple Human just made a name for themselves in the store that shall not be named. Not Beyond Beds and Baths or Baths Beyond the Bed, but the other one.Most of those trash cans are still in use somewhere else in the house, but when we acquired an Australian Shepherd Poodle Mix (Shephoodle) the old designs proved to be worthless for keeping out nosy dogs. She could easily lift the edge of a trash can with her nose and pretend she was an elderly quadruped in line at Western Sizzlin'. After cleaning up the resulting mess more than once it was time to shop for a new trash can.The Butterfly Lid Simplehuman came to the top of the usual search results, and sorting by review seemed to solidify the choice. Durability remains to be seen, but so far the dog has not gotten in this one, the action is smooth, it looks great and the kids fingerprints don't show up nearly as much as other stainless objects in the kitchen. Capacity for the 30 gallon is adequate.Removing the trash bag once it's compacted from a few days of use is a bit of a challenge for our 3 year old, so I let our 12 year old take out the trash for now. My 3 year old is currently on a regimen of light weight and high reps and should be ready to take over trash duty in a few months.As for the dog, she read the manual for the trash can the day I opened it (Didn't realize she could read then.), but she doesn't have the weight to push down on the foot pedal yet. Ha! Take that smart dog.The cans a winner. A bit steep in price, but certainly dog proof at this point. Again, the 30 liter size is fine for our family of 4, but that may be because our Cockatiel Macaw Parrot mix (Cockacaw) taught us about composting. Having had two cans with sensor lids that eventually get flaky or outright break, I decided to try the simplehuman. What a horrible name for a product line! Pricey too... but probably worth it. The custom bags work very well and I bought them in quantity to reduce the expense.Mechanically it works very well. The construction is sound. The design is okay but not without issues. Bag removal is harder than with most other cans. Note harder, not hard. The problem I found was related to the elevating flaps. They tend not to go perfectly perpendicular and so they constrain the space for removing the bag. Not hard, but definitely harder. Next, if you are accustomed to scraping dirty plates into the gaping maw of a flip-back kitchen can, you will no longer have a maw, but rather a pair of flaps on either side that restrict the space and rise up to get in your way. If that is a common task, you may grind your teeth a bit on this unit. If you are suffering from claustrophobia, move along, this guy will raise your blood pressure.Fingerprint-proof is not how I would describe the surface, but it does clean up nicely and the materials are of good quality. Of course, you are paying for that quality and ultimately, this can is probably a luxury item. Of course, the more you pay for something, the more likely you are to praise it since it is so hard to admit that you are a fool for buying it. Bottom bottom line: it works reliably and is not ugly.

Looks great. It's narrower than my other can and fits in the spot. Works well, easy too open and looks good.My only complaint is that the can uses a rather unusual insert and one is encouraged to use their proprietary bags. the standard larger bags from the major companies work ok, but they require a tuck at the top to make it snug. Not a big deal, but adds a little extra effort to save money on the basic bag.So,great can, not thrilled with the need to buy the bags from simplehuman for the best fit. Everything should be universal..

Après avoir longuement hésité j'ai commandé cette poubelle car hormis mes impératifs de dimensions étroites , il me fallait une poubelle que bébé n'arriverai pas à ouvrir facilement, ce qui est le cas, pour l'instant. J'ai aussi sauté sur les ventes d'occasion- reconditionné (38€) donc mon article avait 1 poc de chaque côté, mais cela ne se voit pas chez moi.C'est agréable de ne pas l'entendre quand elle se ferme. Tout est de qualité, même la pédale on sens qu'on peut y aller franco. Seul les sacs de la marque sont franchement cher, pour ma part j'y ai mis des 50L Carrefour a 2,60 les 15 parce que mes 30l n'allait pas au fond du bac amovible.Très belle poubelle (bizarre de dire ça d'une poubelle)

I was looking for a new kitchen bin and already knew of the reputation of Simplehuman. After a little research I quickly decided to invest in the 30L butterfly pedal bin. Arriving quickly I was surprised at how compact the unit is (smaller than I expected in comparison to the photo's however for me this is not a negative) I was so pleased to see that the stainless steel finish truly is finger print proof! I really do not like stainless steel products as it marks and scratches so easily and is a nightmare to keep clean. Thankfully this is not something I need to worry about with this bin! The bin itself is very smart and discreet and you really can see the quality in every aspect. The unit is lightweight yet robust and easy to handle. The bin is functional as the butterfly lids allow full access to the can (unlike my previous Typhoon Capsule pedal bin which had a tiny opening making it difficult to scrape plates etc) I like the way in which smaller details have been thought of such as the soft close function and how you can prop the lids open for longer use and bag changes. There is even a built in rest enabling you to tilt the plastic bucket at an angle allowing for easier bag changes. I have also purchased the Simplehum can liners and will continue to do so. They fit perfectly and ensure no liner is seen when the lids are closed. Not only that but they are strong and well constructed with reinforced seams and useful tie handles. I am the kind of person who will invest in a quality item and if you are looking for a new kitchen bin that will not only function perfectly and look great in your kitchen then look no further; you've just found it!
