I had to get my software updated to the 70.000 some. Went to the dealership for that which costed $150. Then paid someone to install for me which was $200 something. So total was $500 something which is less than what the dealership would do it for. I am happy with this purchase. I can now look at my screen for directions instead of my phone. You still have access to the regular Mazda mode. It does not connect to Bluetooth will have to use a cable to connect to apple play. Over all I’m happy. 10/06/23 Update! Got off work and connected my phone to the CarPlay thru the charger and the music would play but couldn’t see nothing on the screen like if it was off. I unplugged it and the Mazda screen would come on so my screen isn’t broken it’s the car play. There were times where I would connect my phone and CarPlay wouldn’t pop up and Ik my charger was good cause it was charging my phone. Didn’t even last a year. Very sad.

Got this to install in our son's 2016 Mazda CX-5 GT. Found some great YouTube installation videos and installation took just around an hour from start to finish. The instructions that come with it are pretty limited to just the wiring (not taking apart the dash to install), but the videos we found were a great complement to the wiring instructions provided. All in all, super straight forward and seems like a crazy good value for being able to add Android Auto/Apple Carplay to the built in visual display. Very happy that we bought this.

Ordered and installed this unit on 8/1/23. In my 2017 Mazda6 Grand Touring. Installation was pretty easy. As long as you are comfortable with carefully removing dash trim pieces and routing cables through your dash and console. The unit included foam padding to secure around the cabling to prevent chafing and rattling. Everything was included to perform a clean install if you take your time and consider the best paths to route and secure the cables. Make sure you check your vehicles firmware version prior to ordering. A firmware update can be intimidating and could possibly brick your car’s infotainment system if not done properly. Luckily mine was already several versions above the required version and didn’t require an update for this inst. 11/12/23 started experiencing issues with car play disconnecting and reconnecting randomly while driving. I figured it was my cord so I ordered a new Apple certified cord. I immediately had the same problem with my new cord. I then tried my daughters iPhone with the new cord and had the same result. It’s frustrating but usually would connect and keep a connection to car play for a while when driving before occurring again. 1/7/24 Apple car play no longer works with this device. Ive tried multiple Apple certified cables that work with car play in my other vehicles. This device no longer operates at all. I’ve opened up my dash and console again and have ensured all cable connections are tight. I can plug in my iPhone and it will charge but Apple car play will not connect and be displayed on my screen. 3/22/24 it’s been a couple months without car play now. I’m frustrated and disappointed in this device as it worked well when first installed. I’m now looking for a similar device with better quality. At this time I would NOT purchase this product again or recommend anyone else purchase one as I did when I first installed it. Disappointed enough to write this review as I’m out the cost of this unit and hours of my time installing this device and then opening back up my dash and console to troubleshoot and inspect connections. I’ve seen comments from other people who’ve purchased and installed this device around the same time frame with the same exact issue. Calling out a faulty unit after only a few months. If it is a faulty unit, I would hope the manufacturer or seller would be willing to replace the unit. I’m an electronics engineer who also has a background in mechanics I would be more than happy to send you back my faulty unit for failure analysis. Great concept but poor quality. A device of this sort should not start failing within 90 days of use in an automotive setting where it only gets maybe a couple hours of use each day. A total failure within 5 months of use is simply unacceptable for a product of this nature.

Worked first try in my 2016 Miata and looks OEM. Installation takes a bit of doing due to a lot of panels needing to be removed to access the old USB hub, but it’s doable if you take your time. I followed an instruction video from someone on YouTube. It connected to my iPhone on the first go, and works exactly like a normal Mazda CarPlay installation.

So far I’m not happy with this purchase. It took me nearly three hours to install (granted I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to my car), but almost immediately I started having issues. It works maybe half of the time. The primary issue being the message “No CarPlay device detected.” This is curious because if I don’t plug in my phone, no message appears. When it does work it’s frequently slow/freezes for a moment or two, and twice now has blacked out the screen on the car until I shut the car off. Needless to say, I’m very frustrated at this point. I’m in the process of troubleshooting and will update accordingly. I have service scheduled at the dealership to update the firmware. In the meantime I’m going to test with other devices (another iPhone and an Android) to try and determine if the issue is the hub (you know, what I’m reviewing), the car, or the phone. UPDATE: The installed firmware was the earliest possible firmware that was compatible with this hub. After taking the car to the dealership for an update, the hub now works better than it had. It’s far from perfect though I think it might be my phone that takes the blame. While lightening cables are not directional, it doesn’t always connect when plugging it in to the car. Sometimes I need to unplug the cord, rotate it 180° then plug it back in, which is frustrating. It’s also quite slow, but I suspect that’s more of a Mazda issue. All in all, I’m just happy to have CarPlay in my car. This is much cheaper than OEM, so if you’re trying to save some money, this is the part for you.

Install was pretty easy. Watch couple of videos. I pulled out the old hub using the two holes in the SD card slot. Big problem is no touch screen with Android. Otherwise it's okay. Definitely worth the 60 bucks.

This product is awesome. I bought another brand and it didn't even detect the SD card. Only AA and CarPlay worked fine in that peoduct. But everything in this one worked like a charm. Thanks, I'm really happy! Highly recommended.

Install was easy. Product has great before and after sale support. Customer Service takes care of any concerns. I had updated software earlier, removal of panels was easy, ran cables behind the dash, took 30 mins. OEM controls work, nav works and apple carplay works fine. Make sure the usb cable is oem apple to avoid any issues. Overall happy and dont think twice, buy it. Feels like a new ride now with better map music etc. Im thinking of buying another one.
