Had to replace the coil on our 1990s john deer rider that was given to us last year, coil shorted out from two cracks in coil wire grounding out on metal panel covers of Commander 12 engine. Use a business card to help with install, put card between motor coil contacts and the new coil magnet, to give it correct distance. tightened all bolts, connect spark plug, she fired up 2nd crank with key. Have mowed the lawn 4 times since installing new one, works every time. Well worth the price of under $25.

I have a Craftsman 42” mower from the 90’s that has a Kohler engine and this coil fit perfect. The mower fired right up and runs better than it ever has in the 10ish years I’ve had it. My mower would only start part of the time and once it died for no reason so I figured it was a spark issue. Thankfully these parts are pretty cheap so it doesn’t hurt to try them to see if it fixes your issue.

I got this one because is was the fastest delivery (with Prime) without paying extra, side benefit was that it was the cheapest too.. Installing was a breeze although it would have been great if the torque specs were provided! After installing and setting the flywheel clearance with a business card (double checked with feeler gauges), the test run went well. I've noticed more evenly applied power during mowing, meaning that I don't hear the engine bog down when going through tallish grass. I know that before the replacement, the engine would sputter and backfire and finally, no spark at the plug. Glad I found this replacement part for my John Deere LT155 15 HP kohler engine. I've only mowed the lawn once and so far, it was a good choice.

***UPDATE*** Seller replaced my purchase with another coil of the same type. The second one fit fine and the mower runs great so far. Changing my review from 1 star to 4 stars (would be 5 stars except for the hassle of having to return it once to get one that was drilled correctly. Quality control is probably not high on this product if they can't drill holes consistently). ***MY ORIGINAL REVIEW*** Drilled holes did not line up on my John Deere LT160 with a Kohler CV460S engine. Can't install it and will be returning. The description clearly says it's compatible with an LT160 with a Kohler.
