Decent sound, good construction, handy plastic case
Have had it for: 1 month now, since early July 2013 Pros: sound quality through my headphone speakers; handy plastic case for carrying in laptop bag; good construction Cons: None This replaced a Microsoft Office Communicator USB headset from Plantronics that had so much static for some reason that it was practically unusable. This adapter worked with my smartphone's 3-pin earbuds just as expected, out of the box. The build quality seems to be good. The sound is clean. The little molded plastic case provided in the box, into which the adapter locks nicely into place, is handy for storing the adapter in my laptop bag while not in use.

Excellent product
The audio converter is really good. The converter meets expectations. Product design is good and sober-minded. I bought it for connect my cable handsfree iPhone 5 with laptop and it works great. The drive receives handsfree jack and separate microfine and auricolar two outputs is connected to the computer. This allows to use the handsfree phone as headphones into the computer. It is difficult to find a converter that meets these characteristics.

Works but can be better
This unit works as planned; bought two of them. However, it's quite difficult to decipher the headphone and the mic jacks. The manufacturer could have done a better job stenciling or labeling the two. Because of its size, it's difficult to see the headphone and mic stenciling. Perhaps some tape or color solves the problem. For the price, expected a little more engineering. For sure, Apple engineers were not on the design team.

Response to P. MSakamoto
This product works _exactly_ as advertised. The review by P. MSakamoto really is just a long complaint about a change that Apple made in Mac OS 10.6 that altered the line level of the line-in jack on Macbooks making it no longer compatible with any unpowered Mic. This is a problem with what Apple did, not the VOIDPAD35. P.MSakamoto seemd to be complaining simply because it doesn't work on their Macbook, even though the product does not specifically say it works with Macbooks, it only mentions laptops in the general sense, and in general it works perfectly well with laptops. The other complaints about the packaging are ridiculous. Of course not every smartphone uses a 3.5mm plug. The statement about the 3.5mm labeling being burried is just not true; it's perfectly easy to see on the package, even easier to see on the product page here on Amazon, and the name even implies as such "VOIPAD_35_"... clearly someone didn't read the description before they made their purchase. Lastly, the comment about ebay is also ridiculous because of course you can find cheaper stuff on ebay, that's true of just about everything isn't it? The only complaint P.MSakamoto made that I would 100% agree with is that the labels for Mic/Headphone are very difficult to see. They're shown as being black on the packaging and product images here on Amazon but are in fact a gray color that is not much darker than the silver plug itself. Summary: This product works _as advertised_ and does a decent job at it. I could have bought a similar cable for about $2 from monoprice, but this one actually looks nice and doesn't have a pink/green color combination.

doesn't work as advertised
I bought this item for use with SteelSeries 7H Headset for iPad, iPod, and iPhone (Black) . When you plug it into a PC to use the headset you loose sound out of one ear (I assume the connections inside the adapters headset plug are lined up wrong). The only way to get sound from both ears is to pull the plug out of the adapter (slightly more than the width of a nickle) and hope it doesn't move. Sound is great through the headset without this adapter, you just can't use the microphone. So, my headset isn't made wrong. Pass on this item.

Sorta works + incredibly thin wires = looking for another brand
First off, at a most basic level, this adapter works for me. But it's only working on my Windows machines, not on my iMacs. It's frustrating but the iMacs could be to blame. iMacs work fine with TRRS (4-contact) headsets as is, so there's really no need for this adapter. The bigger concern is how incredibly thin the wires are. While this is the most 'professional' looking headset to mic/phones splitter I could find (no garish, lego-y pink/green connectors), its wires are so thin I'm afraid to use this with any sort of portable device where the wires could have wear and tear. The connectors are quite nice and it works on my Windows machines (mostly laptops), but it doesn't work on my iMacs and I fear for the longevity of this device on portables due to the incredibly thin wires. I'll be looking to purchase a different splitter, even if it means putting up with pink/green connectors.

Convenient & useful way to get more out of your headset
Not much to say about this, it just works. Hooks into my laptop, and into my smartphone headset ( Skullcandy INK'd Earbuds with In-Line Microphone S2INBI-SZ (Silver) ) and it just works. The build quality looks to be good, with low-profile durable strain reliefs. I can't comment on mac compatibility, since I don't have one; but newer macs support the standard 3.5mm smartphone headset this is used for without any adapters, so it's kind of pointless. This should also help with an occasional glitch I get plugging my headset into some things (can't think of specifics right now) where the sound is messed up, like the volume of everything is off. Basically makes them work as a normal pair of headphones. As an added bonus, the plastic clamshell in the package (the white area in the second picture of the product) is small and reclosable, so it makes a handy case to carry this around in. A bit tricky to get the cables arranged back, but not bad for being a free bonus.
