It takes all of the guesswork out of the perfect ratio of coffee to water for the best possible cup of coffee. It is super fast and very quiet. Just a couple of minutes for a 4 cup brew. I love that you can adjust the brew strength. I like my coffee on the bold side so this works well for that. The carafe is very high quality and keeps coffee hot for a long time with no annoying burning from a hot plate. I love that there is no hot plate. It is very easy to use and offers an "idiot proof" cup of coffee of superior taste (and I use 8'oclock coffee). The only downside I have found is that you cannot fill the water reservoir for smaller brews, you can ONLY fill for the amount of cups per brew. Not a deal breaker but something to keep in mind. It is very easy to remove it and fill it however. Another BIG plus is the coffee basket pulls out instead of having to load from the top. HUGE plus on the design. Is it worth the money? I think it is if you want a perfect cup of coffee without having to figure out the ratio and you are someone who is short on time. Also, this is an "invest once" kind of purchase, no going through cheaper coffee makers every few years. This one should last a long time. Get the Mr Coffee or anything other than this coffee maker. The absolute worst coffee maker on the market. All the glowing reviews of this thing are from people who simply can’t admit they bought a $500 piece of Chinese junk with red knobs and a Wolf badge. **Q: what is the sze of the paper filters. Is there a "permanent" filter and where to find?** A: It does not have a permanent filter for the coffee. Water filtration only. I ordered a #4 permanent filter. If it works I will post. **Q: I don't always want to brew a full pot. Is this machine ok to make 2 cups only? Does quality suffer?** A: According to the instructions, yes but I have never made only two cups. I will say this. I didn’t think I would like the thermal carafe as opposed to the glass one that sits on a heated pad for two hours, but much to my surprise, I do . I can come home after my ten hour day, pour a cup of the morning’s coffee and it is Luke warm and doesn’t taste like mud. If I put it in the microwave for twenty seconds it’s perfect. Mind you, I do use cream in my coffee. I also use Starbucks coffee. I have had several high end coffee makers through the years and so far I like this one the best and not just for the coffee it makes but the ease of putting in the grounds and the water and not having to pull the unit out from under the cabinet, lifting the lid and pouring in the water. Now, if the life of this coffee maker out weighs the cost of it, I will be ecstatic. Oh, one more thing, it looks awesome on my counter.
