Twelve years ago, Sarah Baker was abducted by the Watt Lake Killer and sexually assaulted for months before managing to escape. The killer was caught, but Sarah lost everything: her marriage, her child, and the life she loved. Struggling with PTSD, Sarah changes her name to Olivia West and finds sanctuary working on Broken Bar Ranch. But as her scars finally begin to heal, a cop involved with her horrific case remains convinced the Watt Lake Killer is still out there. He sets a lure for the murderer, and a fresh body is discovered. Now Olivia must face the impossibleโcould the butcher be back, this time to finish the job? As a frigid winter isolates the ranch, only one person can help Olivia: Cole McDonough, a writer, adventurer, and ranch heir who stirs long-dormant feelings in her. But this time, Oliviaโs determination to shut out her past may destroy more than her chance at love. It could cost her her life. Review: Bloody brilliant crime thriller - It was both bloody and brilliant. Right from the first chapter the tone was set. It isn't one of those murder mysteries where the investigator is finding one clues after other and the bodies are piling up. Author has spend some good amount of time in plotting, interestingly entwining the lives of all the characters with each other. The characters are fleshed out well, convincing and motivated. I could connect to each one of them. Highly recommended for psychological thriller lovers. Review: brilliant story and so well told! - Loved it. All the characters. Very perfectly narrated without being mushy or overly sentimental. Cole was my favourite character hands down.

A bit gory for my liking
The book is fabulously written and is unputdownable. Keeps you guessing till the very end. However, the violence in it is too descriptive for me, personally.

A Snowy Serial Killer Saga
A nice novel with a dark snowy, chilly background. The serial killer on the hunt to his prey is told in an effective and compelling manner, but was quite a drag, as almost 75 to 100 pages can be cut short or edited for more razor sharp drama. Overall, an excellent and exciting read.

If you are reading just one book in your life, THIS IS THE BOOK.
Definitely recommended. It is a book about love, loss, courage and so much more. If you read only one book in your life, make it this book. THAT GOOD!

A Page Turner--Very Suspenseful!
I just now finished this book. Usually I don't review a book right away but this one was so good that I had to review it while it was still fresh in my mind. I can't tell you how glad I was that I picked this book as my Kindle First for the month of June. I won't get into the details about this story because I am sure other reviewers will do a better job of it than I could. This book kept me turning the pages--I could not stop myself from wanting to know what happened next. There was times when I had to quit reading just to do mundane things like cook a meal for my husband (LOL)--and the whole time I am cooking or doing any other kind of housework my mind was busy thinking about this story. The suspense was very intense and this is what kept you turning the pages. I only found one thing technically wrong with the story. As any Kindle user knows, you do have to charge up your Kindle to keep reading it--and in this story Tori was always reading her Kindle--but there was no electricity in the cabin they stayed in, so how did she keep her Kindle charged up? I doubt very seriously that she would have charged it up at the big lodge because she would have been afraid someone would see what she was reading. Nether the less, this minor point did not take away from the story at all. The book had a very satisfying conclusion so it was a stand alone story. Even so, I am hoping that there will be another story about these great characters. You could not help but feel sympathy for the characters in the story and could not help but pull for them to find the love, comfort and forgiveness that they all needed. I have never read anything by this author before but now I will start looking for more books by her. If this book had not been a free book for my Kindle first and I knew that it was this good, I would have gladly bought this book because it was worth buying. Can't say that about a lot of free books.

Great thriller
Enjoyed this book very much, well written, good plots and well developed. Would have liked a bit more background on the bad guy, as there were hints about his childhood that didn't go any further, which could / should have explained his behaviour as an adult. This is why I only give 4 stars

Gripping story of survival
First time I've read this author and will definitely read more of her brilliant writing. This storyline effortlessly weaves a number of different stories together. This book is about a woman who survives being held captive for 5 months by a serial killer who is evil. She escapes and painfully manages to piece her life together for twelve years until he begins to hunt her again - he is supposed to be dead. This story is gripping, raw and brilliant.

A great jigsaw of a novel.
This novel has 6 main characters whose lives come together at the Broken Bar ranch in Canada. It is a regular crime thriller about a serial killer, a victim who got away, with some romance and suspense thrown in for good measure. A Dark Lure is all about hunting and presenting a lure to attract the prey. It is not just about hunting for animals to eat or fish to catch but also concerns attracting people or passing on the truth. Loreth writes a good novel that makes for an entertaining and thrilling read. All the little bits of information thrown into her script are there for a reason and are essential to the plot. There is no padding here to bulk out the pages. Slowly the 6 main characters are drawn together as this story unfolds. Character development is very good and you see this story grow from each characters' point of view. What is nice is how this jigsaw of a plot fits together with all those small details playing their part later on. This is a great novel for spotters of detail. Her vocabulary is extensive and her knowledge of fishing is great. I have no interest whatsoever in fishing but Loreth managed to get across to me the essence of the activity and the importance of the lure. The romance is an integral part of this novel but is not sugary sweet and should appeal to both genders. I really enjoyed reading A Dark Lure although it was not focused on one genre. The editing was spot on and this jigsaw of a novel was very like a successful mainstream television drama targeted to a wide audience at prime time. Generally when you try to please lots of people you are doomed to failure but Loreth has the storytelling skill to appeal to a wide and varied audience. Dog lovers will enjoy this story too as Ace, the German Shepherd, has his important part to play in this jigsaw of a novel. The best part of this novel is the ending but not the ending of the story. Loreth decided for very good reasons, to leave her acknowledgements until after her story finished. These acknowledgements show the whole story from an authors' point of view and this was extremely refreshing for me to read. All in all Loreth has the lure to draw in a wide audience of readers with her jigsaw of a novel which I vote the top score of 5 stars. Thankfully, for all her talk about fishing, Loreth never once mentioned maggots which.really give me the creeps!
