I have over 75 in mine right now with more room.

Is there room for the records to stand vertically, not tilted like in the pictures?

Yes, you can stand a standard album straight up and down. There is enough room for the album sleeve - there will be about 1/2 inches more space as well, so it's not a tight fit. I tried to post a picture but Amazon's web site is only wanting a video? Strange....

What are the interior dimension of each record bay? I am trying to determine if I can fit my stereo equipment inside of it on one side.

I have no idea on weight but this stand is small, it's short.. I am 5 ft tall I have to bend over to reach it. Be sure it's what your looking for I an very disappointed in it's size. Seems more appropriate for a child's room.. pictures are deceiving
