Latest release from Slipknot that's fortified with an arsenal of blisering music satruated with screams, drums, searing riffs, sampling, scratches and melody. T Review: Nostalgic 90's mama sharing my taste in music with my kids! - My son and daughter both loved this CD. I bought each of them their own copy. It's exactly what they wanted at a good price. The CD was in perfect condition and the packaging was intact. They love Slipknot and are both building up their CD collections. I never thought as a 90's kid that CDs would make a comeback with my own kids. Nostalgic mama over here sharing my taste in music with my kids. What a great memory to have with my kiddos! Review: If you want REAL metal you should.... - Just shut up already. How many people come here to write a review to slag the band and then go on to mention various "true" metal bands and how they are so much better? I know all of those bands mentioned plus a ton of others that those cool "underground metal d00des" has never heard, so your ramblings hold no water with me. With all that I have heard, I still listen to Slipknot, ALOT. Okay, they are not the most brutal, or the most technical, or the most scary, or the most insane, but they have a little bit of everything which makes them enjoyable to listen to, especially on this album. Corey sings, screams, and curses. The music goes from brutal to quiet, all the while maintaining some type of psychotic aura about it. The bottom line is they have some good songs to bash someone elses's head to. Album highlights include "People=S__t", "My Plague", "The Shape", "I am Hated", "New Abortion", "Iowa", and the creepy remake of "Gently". I look at Slipknot like professional wrestling: big on image, a little contrived, but still having substance and always very entertaining. This album deserves 5 stars and having listened to it for 4 months, IS better than the first. I'll now name-drop to keep the current trend going. If you like insanely technical (no 2 chord songs for me!) go with Spiral Architect. If you like something br00tal, go with Suffocation. If you want something slighty odd, go with Arcturus. If you want something depressing, go with Katatonia. If you want something beautiful, go with Anathema. Did I do well all-knowing metal masters? Ugh

MAGGOT FOR LIFE
This is it's own 5 star review. Slipknot is Legendary and nothing I say can ever compare to the greatness that is Slipknot.

THE GODS OF METAL STAKE THEIR CLAIM
Slipknot returns with this brutal and compelling work of non-stop aggressivness. Slipknot is without a doubt the best metal band out there right now. They are definatley the saviors of HEAVY METAL! The 'knot has opened the gates for all of the "New Breed" of metal artists. The brutal screaming that opens up the album let's you know that you are in for a 66:25 minute adrenaline rush. But be warned, if you are a stupid trendy person that only likes Slipknot because you thought "Wait and Bleed was cool" then this album is much too real for you. So take heed and stay away, this album will definatley knock away some of the more trendy wanna-be maggots and make way for the true fans. Every song on this album is MORE THAN EXCELLENT, MORE THAN THE BEST, MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY! Not one dull moment on this disc, so if you are a true Maggot than I can only ask why you are reading this! You should know already that it is the best and screw what the critics (me included) say! Make your own opinion. And if you don't like this album then keep it to yourelf because no one wants to hear a squeaky pre-pubescent nerd talk about how the loud noise hurts his ears. SLIPKNOT! It's only NOISE to the TONE DEAF!

Hard to find... but worth the search
Musical taste is not something that can be disputed so I respect that many people I know think this is not Slipknot's best. A lot of metal heads probably don't even like Slipknot either. That's fine and I respect opinions other than my own. Iowa is my favourite Slipknot release to date, and I must say that Slipknot is probably the only American metal band that I can listen to and appreciate. Out of all their releases, this is the one I can listen to all the way through without skipping songs, which for me, is a major accomplishment. The music is heavier than all the other albums, and Corey has more harsh sounding vocals than with their debut. This album was released as a promotional piece if you pre-ordered the "Disasterpieces" DVD. This is not only a rare album altogether, but the sound is very clean and crisp. It's a double gatefold LP and the title track takes up the entire second side of the second LP (which doesn't surprise me in the slightest -- "Iowa" is a 14 minute track). I have all of Slipknot's albums on vinyl and I fear this is going to be the one I will wear out first. If you are lucky enough to find this LP at a reasonable price, you might want to pick it up and give it a listen. :)

This album doesn't suffer from the sophomore slump!!
I can't believe I'm listening to Slipknot...is exactly what I thought when buying this CD. I never thought I would be able to enjoy/appreciate Slipknot as a band. Ever. Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses) was the first album I purchased, and I was pleasantly surprised. I always thought that Slipknot was too gimmicky with the masks and the jumpsuits, but I always liked Corey Taylor's voice in Stone Sour (I know, I know, the maggots don't particularly care for that side project of his). Craving something more I decided to take a chance on Iowa, what is supposed to be their heaviest and darkest offering yet. The albums 2 singles, "My Plague" and "Left Behind", are very approachable with some nice melody and catchy hooks. The other songs I feel that are very palatable, as well as moody and atmospheric, are "Gently", "The Shape", and "Skin Ticket". These songs have some great guitar work and I have to say I love all the record scratching and custom percussion that you can hear layered into them. There really is quite a bit going on in these songs. I have also found the track "(515)", the area code for central Iowa, serves as a great intro for the actual song "Iowa", which just has some wonderfully twisted lyrics as well as being this 15 minute, spaced-out, experimental musical trip. (It sounds like it's about a serial killer who has killed and buried a girl, his first, but not before he has removed a finger for a souvenir. Whoa! Vermilion Pt. 1 and 2 eat your heart out!) As for the rest of the songs, whatever. Some of them sound much better live (as Disasterpieces" shows), such as "People=S**t", "Disasterpiece", "Everything Ends", and "The Heretic Anthem". I will add that I love the CD packaging and artwork, especially the band pics. I don't like all the songs on this album, but the ones I like, I REALLY like. Hope this helps.
