Kaytee Woodland Get-A-Way Medium

The media could not be loaded. The smaller window in this hide may be too small for a syrian hamster but my dwarf Robo fits through it with no trouble. So do my gerbils. This is made of pine but I contacted Kaytee and they confirmed it is Kiln-dried pine. So it is safe for rodents. It is very well made and sturdy. It comes already put together. Got 2 of these medium-sized houses for two separate tanks. It comfortably fits adult gerbils, but it can get cramped if you have full grown males inside. (Females tend to stay lean and muscular.) The workmanship on the product is decent.There's no metal tacks but this is Made in China so pray the glue they use isn't toxic. At least it's not a toxic plastic house that let light and shadow come through .Type of wood appears to be pine but is not mentioned anywhere. Another downside is the pyramid shape which takes up a lot of what little tank or cage space there is. If you have newborn animals think twice. Toddler gerbils can get trapped between the slanted sides and the tank.TIP: I like to purchase chemical free single-ply toilet tissue for them to nest in these with because it's dust and dye free and keeps them really warm inside during the winter.

It's a good size for a sm-med mouse. I got this size for a field mouse that will grow to be a good size, but not large like a large rat, though will fit inside this house to sleep and hide when it needs to. Would prefer it to be a an inch longer to be more comfortable without being higher and more square with a 1" ventilation hole on top. The large house is too big and high for a good size cage that has a large wheel and food and water dishes. I usually use four dishes. One for fresh fruit, one for fresh veggies, one for nut mix and one for water. They need a house size in-between the med and large with the height staying med size.

Small was way too small for a guinea pig. Looks well made and sturdy, just too small.

My gerbils love to hide in this and chew on it, and if I place their food bowl on top they can't bury it and move it around as much, so I can easily find the food bowl to fill up. So with the product I have no complaints at all. It's wonderful and I will buy it again whenever this one is destroyed. That's why the five stars.HOWEVER, Amazon decided to package this little wooden toy in the same box as a heavy case of canned cat food, so OF COURSE it was broken when it arrived! If I had better judgement at the time, I would have returned it so I didn't have to worry about reduced life of the product and trying to sand away the jagged broken edge to make it safe again. But I was impatient for the gerbils to get to use their little house.I wish I could leave a totally seperate review for the shipping process, but I'll settle for trying to keep other people from receiving broken products. REQUEST IT SHIPPED SEPERATELY, or at least not with something hard and heavy. *sigh

I got this for my Syrian. It’s a good size for a one room giveaway, she fits fine and likes it.My personal complains are about the construction.1. Not sanded (see photo)2. Received cracked (but not causing structural problems-see photo)3. Corners not fit together snug (although the glue makes this a non-problem. Just adds to the shoddy craftsmanship - see photo)4. What is up with the space on the top?! I don’t understand why they have the sunken part, it just accumulates gunk.For the price, and the perfect size for a Syrian, I’d probably recommend, but do yourself a favor and find something better. I’ve purchased Night Angel products on Amazon and their construction is top notch. I will be sticking with their accessory products going forward however Kaytee makes plenty of other bedding and sandbath products I am happy with.

We bought this for our rabbit to have some privacy, he's been in an open bed so we put this right on top of the plastic bed, surprisingly it fit nicely. For a day or two he avoided it, but now it has become his den, which is what we were hoping for. We first bought a grass hut but he started to devour it and it fell apart in about 3 days. So far he is not chewing on any of this, even the edges and doorway, so it looks like this little wood hut will be his comfy home for a nice long time, making it worth the price. I'd say avoid the hay or grass houses unless them being eaten in days is what you're after - if you want a durable long lasting den for your little critter, this is a good choice.
