Impressive quality and even better value.
I'd never heard of Detroit Axle, but while shopping for new suspension components for my beater car (a 1996 Toyota Avalon), I found their fully-assembled struts sold in pairs for only slightly more than other brands wanted for just the strut cartridge themselves and decided to give them a try. To my absolute amazement, they look exactly like the OEM Toyota parts in every way, bolted right in effortlessly, and most importantly, ride just like OEM parts. I've already put nearly 1000 miles on them, and the value and quality continue to amaze me.

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!! I purchased this item online through Amazon on 7/6/2025 for my 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT. The shocks fit just fine, but a year later, the ride is rough and the squeaking noise sounds like the truck is 20 years old. Even after applying spray grease and axle grease to the rubber bushings that appear to be distorted under load, they still squeak horribly on even the slightest bumps in the road and especially at low speeds going through a parking lot. Even worse, the photo above that they used is a photo of Monroe shocks 173116 not Detroit Axle which you can tell by the bottom eyelet. Monroe encloses the bottom eyelet with a full metal washer bolt around the lower rubber bushing while Detroit Axle does not. As a result, the rubber bushing at the base of Detroit Axle shocks/front struts squeezes out and deforms under load (pressure) and eventually squeaks as the truck goes over small bumps in the road. Using a picture of Monroe shocks to sell a clearly cheaper defective and inferior product is false advertising and a deceptive practice. DO NOT BUY!!!

Good so far
I put these on a 2014 Corolla S and so far they are doing well. The spring was slightly different it seemed as compared to the original, but the ride is good. They were simple to put on and the finish looks really nice on them. They came really well packaged and protected. You'll need to save the brackets and bolts for the speed sensor and brake line and put them on this one. It comes with the top mounting bolts. I also swapped over the rubber grommet that covers the center bolt in the mounting plate, as these didn't come with those. For the Corolla, you'll simply remove the cowl and windshield wipers assembly in order to access the top mounting bolts of the strut. I removed the tire, caliper and brake disc, one end of the sway bar link, and then was able to remove the two bolts holding the lower part of the strut to the steering knuckle. Then it's just a matter of wiggling out the old one, putting this one in place and reattaching everything.

Very good product!
The technician I had install these told me he's had good luck with the Detroit brand. What surprised me was that, not only do they work well, they are also smoother than the factory units. Road irregularities, speed bumps, etc. are far less harsh than the factory units. Yet, they are not too soft and the car handles excellent. Any time you buy non factory parts you have to be cautious. Since they are brand new, I can't speak to long term durability. But, very important, they cost about 1/4 of the factory parts. Sweet!

Independent Auto Mechanic
Fit my 2013 Dodge Journey well. Avoided nearly $1k off typical costs at popular auto repairs shops while still paying independent auto mechanic fair price and safe place to conduct repairs. PS: And throw in wheel alignment cost too!! Still average shop cost $1,000 higher than using independent mechanic for install. Vs: eg Pepboys, Firestone, Amazon verbal quotes for two front combo of shock/strut install!
