Poems, 1965-1975

Well if you like Seamus Heaney you can't go wrong. You'll probably love it. I liked one of them, 'Requiem for the Croppies'. Brought the book on the strength of this one brilliant poem. Rather disappointed with most of the rest. his Irish rural charm invoking an age long gone. Still, not as suicidal as Plath so well worth the entrance fee. Hope you get more enjoyment out of it than I did.

Heaney is the master of agrarian spiritual poetry after Kavanagh, even though he doesn't give a fig about feminist issues. He mostly objectifies women in the most beguiling way (seriously, I'm charmed, most of the time). His descriptions of the landscape are so poignant and compelling, I don't even mind; okay, I mind a lot in "Punishment" in particular, but other than that, he gets a pass because his verse is keen, lyrical, and moving. His verse is fluid and flexible, but always grounded in the particularities of place: accessible without sacrificing sophistication.

Seamus Heaney［ヒーニ］と言う人。アイルランドの現代詩人です。「現代に於いて、W.B.Yeats の位置を占めている」と、評された人ですが、やはり、ノーベル賞を、受賞しました。そうして、２１世紀で、亡くなりましたね。 この本では、Heaney の初期詩編が、４つ、"Death of a Naturalist" "Door into the Darkness" "Wintering Out" "North" が、収められています。 今のところ、Heaney の、Collected Poems は、出ていないので、この初期詩編集で、ガマンの子、と言った具合です。 もし、この初期詩編集で、興味を抱いた方は、"Field Work"(Noonday Press) を、どうぞ。

Some great collections here. Nice to get 4-in-1 with no poems left out from this early period.

Just a good read. As you would expect from Seamus Heaney. You can carry this book but Heaney can carry you. I strongly suggest this book to anyone interested in Irish poets/writers. I suggest this book for anyone interested in BOOKS!His imagery is deeper than most poets'. In the States _in school- we read Robert Frost and all that bunk. But Heaney's work is something completely different and even a bit unexpected at times. I love it.What else can I say?
