All the numbers match on my existing one (440 vac, 50/60 hz, +-6%), except for mine has the number 40uf/5uf instead of 45/5 ... will this one work?

A 55 Micro Farad cap will most likely run fine in your unit.. Capacitors work like batteries on start-up of the motor where extra electrical energy assists the unit in overcoming the latency of the motor to start. Capacitors charge at different times depending on capacity. Typically it uses 5 time constants for a capacitor to charge and discharge. All this means that a small cap will charge faster than a large one but means little to the user if they are not using it as some part of a timing circuit. The Booster Supco Cap adds extra energy on startup so the unit gets that extra electrical push. This is a very simplified answer to a somewhat lengthy Study of CAPs in EE courses and how they are used and work.

Where do I buy the wires to hook it up? I can't splice on the terminals myself

The wires are already on the condenser unit... If you have a separate capacitor for fan don't use that terminal or vice versa

If your your system issue is the compressor does not start once called and the fan does the you have a capacitor problem. Validate the capacitance in your system; 45uf for the compressor and 5uf for the fan then this product will work. The strap and connector is standard.
