Hi everyone! So I have a DELL Latitude 5401 laptop from work, and I wanted to connect it to this giant 24" Apple display monitor (from 2008, its called a cinema display, looks like they don't make them anymore). Multiple problems included the Apple monitor having an old mini display port (which is pretty much obsolete tech) as well as having a hard time finding adapters that would connect properly to both systems. Also, I have a USB-C port charger for my dell, and it only has the one port.......Thankfully this adapter worked for me, I was able to simultaneously hook up the monitor AND charge my laptop :) PROS: - connects to a mini display port with no quality issues - the additional USB-C port allows me to charge my laptop AND connect to the monitor - worked on 2008 Apple Cinema Display monitor - worked on Dell Latitude PC laptop CONS: - although it is charging my laptop, I recently saw a pop up on my laptop that said it was charging at a low speed. No biggie since I leave it connected the entire time it is in use - the USB-C port on the adapter (which I am using to plug in my charges) is on the same side as the USB-C connector, so it makes it kind of awkward to plug in my charger as it twists the cords up a bit. - the length is fairly short for my use (I think extra length would make it less awkward to plug in to the USB-C port) and it would have been nice to have a couple more inches on the adapter to make it more "flexible" for my setup...this is totally a FIRST WORLD problem as not many adapters out there on Amazon even have this capability

Successfully connects a modern USB-C MacBook Pro to the 30” Apple Cinema Display (2560×1600) if using the genuine Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. Maintains full resolution and stable signal with no flicker or artifacts. Unlike many USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapters, this one properly supports the legacy DisplayPort 1.1/1.2 timing required by the Apple Dual-Link adapter. NOTE: The StarTech USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter (model CDP2MDPEC), while similar in spec, did not work in this setup. External USB power (5V 2A or higher) must be supplied to the Dual-Link adapter for the system to function. Confirmed working with macOS Sequoia 15.5 on Apple Silicon.

I was in quite the unfortunate situation where I upgrade my computer (hooray), but my trusty old laptop no longer worked with the new ports on the computer. At first I tried a Thunder 2 to Thunder 3 converter, but that didn't work as my (2004) Apple LED Cinema Display actually has a Mini Display input. I hopped on the phone with Apple support and they were able to confirm that was the case, they even looked at this web page with me and said that it was worth a shot. I ordered, and this USBC to Mini Display works GREAT and I'm back up and running. Hooray! Since it doesn't make use of the old USB input on the display (wow, butchered that in terms of technicality, sorry) it means I can't use the video camera on my monitor, but I knew that going in. Would've got a more expensive hub if that was in issue for me. All in all, this shipped fast, works a charm, and spending under $50 bucks on this converter was a way better deal than buying a new monitor—especially since I love the one I already have! Thanks for a great product that keeps my battle station in business.

video works but wont charge my Macbook Pro

Upab has amazing technical support via the Chat function. I ordered an adapter to connect a display port from my monitor to a new Mac since the Mac didn't have a display port like the old one had. I couldn't make the connection work with several different adapters that I ordered. I was with the Chat tech off and on for an hour and still couldn't get the monitor to display with the Upab adapter. Finally the tech offered to talk with me on the phone to figure this out and gave me his number. When I told him how I was connecting the adapter to a bridge to the Mac, he stopped and said that wouldn't work because the bridge couldn't handle the signal. So I connected the adapter to the Mac which I thought wouldn't fit. Needless to say, this saved me hours more work since I wouldn't have thought the issue was the bridge. Thanks Upab !!!

This adapter works as expected when directly connected to my M3 MBA. It might work with certain hubs or docks, but I didn't have success with the StarTech DKM31C3HVCPD which features a USB-C port with Alt Mode. I used this adapter in conjunction with the Apple mDP to DL-DVI adapter to connect my ACD 30" display. You'll need a separate USB to USB-C adapter since the Apple adapter is active and requires power.

Normally I wouldn’t write a review, much less for a display adapter, but since Apple doesn’t care about the compatibility of their own products, I’m glad someone does. I upgraded to a 2017 iMac, and tried to plug in my 2011 Apple Cinema Display (it still works great), and found that there was only a thunderbolt 3 connection. I bought $150 of adapters RECCOMMENDED to me by the Apple store staff, only to find that they didn’t work. I went through Apple tech support, checking display drivers, connections, rebooting numerous times, and the monitor still wouldn’t work. By chance, I saw on the back of one of the adapter boxes (that Apple employees recommended!) that the adapter was specifically not compatible with Apple Cinema Display. Long(er) story short, Apple Cinema Displays have a minidisplay port which is identical to a thunderbolt port, but transfers different information. A thunderbolt to thunderbolt 3 adapter doesn’t work on for a minidisplay port, NO MATTER WHAT APPLE TELLS YOU. A little research got me to this product, which I connected, and instantly got my Apple Cinema Display running. I draw and paint pictures for a living. I am the furthest from tech savvy you can get, so not only did it get my second monitor working, but also made me feel a little awesome.

Après avoir tester plusieurs adapteurs, celui-ci est le seul qui fonctionne pour moi pour relier mon vieux moniteur apple avec un macbook pro nouvelle génération (2024). Pas de scintillement ou de saut d'images. On verra à l'usage.

I went through four different adapters before I settled on this. And it worked straight away, at full resolution without me having to do anything. I have a Mac mini 2018 and an Apple 30" Cinema Display - the hardest thing was getting the two to connect together. I first went for the cheapest which failed, sent it back, ordered something more expensive which also failed and so on until this - this just worked. I didn't even have to connect an extra cable to the spare USB-C slot on the adapter. I highly recommend this.

Funciona perfecto para conectar un Apple Cinema de 23 pulgadas a un iMac 2019. Compre un par de marcas distintas y no funcionaron. Este funciona perfecto.

It worked ot of the box, interfacing mini display port flying lead to a USB-C port on my 2020 Apple Mini M1 running under Ventura 13.4. I use for video only display on the the Apple LED Cinema Display and output sound elsewhere. There are no visible artifacts using the default 2560x1440 resolution and the computer's Displays setting automatically defaulted 'Colour Profile' to 'LED Cinema Display'.
