Canon PIXMA TS6420a All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Printer [Print,Copy,Scan], White

Likes: Very good printing. Clean. Responds to just making copies, black or color. Responds to computer print commands, black, color, pages to print, orientation. Other commands. Not a lot of higher cost options, there are added steps, for black, color, but that’s not a challenge. Like a vehicle, with less options, so, use an extra step, push an extra button. Plain paper, photo paper. Scans good; follows the computer commands. Copies good. No top feeder, but if one does an amount of copying, then get the top feeder for the TS 6420a. Not much in dislikes. But one: Cartridge cost. Two XL’s, 260 and 261, That’s almost half the printer cost. A few months of normal printing, another round of cartridges; hence, the cost of the printer itself. A decision: How much printing one does. Individual choice, this printer or another, with three to four color carts, then the two blacks. Note: the amount of ink in the 260 black, standard or XL, is equal to or less than a black standard or XL cart for another printer that has multiple color carts, and two black carts. In the 261 tri-color cart: 3 spaces, three colors. Likely one third the ink, standard or XL, compared to separate color carts, standard or XL, of other printers. Cost: 260 standard or XL black, more than double cost of another black standard or XL for another printer (note: this one 260 black does double duty, compared to two separate black carts of other printer). Cost: 261 standard or XL tri-color, almost triple the cost compared to separate color standard or XL carts on another printer. The others: Replace only that color. The 261 standard or XL: One color empties first, the whole cart could be useless. Compares to pharmaceutical companies, their brand name drugs. Exorbitant prices. Generics? Cost so much less. Affordable. Every printer maker: The cost of their brand carts is sky high. Generic carts? Ink quality? For printing, photos? It’s a real guessing dilemma. Will it hurt the printer? Void the warranty? The bottom line: Every printer maker makes a fortune on the OEM carts; they know it. Huge after printer sales brand name ink cart profits. Free market, of course. No govt interference. But there is, for drug costs, rightly so. Back to the beginning: It’s a very good printer. Canon Tech support: A-1. No long lines waiting for assistance; answer in a minute. Knowledgeable people, they know their product. Like Apple tech support. No word gimmickry, no ‘awesome’, no ‘perfect’, none of the “I can definitely help”. They hear something once, they got it. No annoying parroting repetitions of a question. The way it was, in more competent times.

I was hesitant to buy this printer, due to some other reviews... it was on sale for around $60 for Prime Day, so I took a chance. We previously had an HP wireless printer that connected less than half of the time. The ease of setting this one up was a huge perk! It came with a QR code to scan for setup. I am a 48-year-old teacher who is somewhat tech savvy, but not the most. I found this extremely easy to follow the directions and set up. If you use your phone, the photo directions are a bit small to see, but overall good directions. It was a breeze to connect the printer to my phone. Then, I went into "My Printers" on my laptop, and there it was, ready to be discovered! So simple. The print quality is good so far. It pauses in between the front and back side of a back-to-back document, but is still decently zippy for an inexpensive printer.

Firstly, I've been using printers for media work regularly and have never come across something so faulty as this printer. Maybe I just got bad luck but what are the odds that the first printer I received did nothing but get stuck with paper jams and would not even try to print because of this. Thankfully, purchased here on Amazon so they sent a replacement that doesn't get stuck but will print only blank pages! These printers come with tiny test inks that I never got to try because the thing won't print and is still using up ink. I've inspected the printer inside and out, there's some foam that sits right under the print heads that could be the culprit because they don't specify to take that out and I didn't until after going through multiple attemps at deep cleans which didn't work because it says it got jammed or something was in the way. Took it out, made no difference. A printer should be easier to use than this. Plug and play too much to ask? Couldn't get the wireless connection from my phone or computer either not that it would matter but yeah, total bust. I guess that the low price tag means they don't have time to check if the printers actually work before they send them out! Roll the dice if you will but make sure not to be on a deadline and be ready to ship this back for a refund!

I moved and could only bring so much with me. I left my other Pixma with my neighbor. Never had a lick of trouble with it so I wanted one like it. This one looked just like my old one, but it does have some upgrades, I'd guess you'd call them. Got this set up and printing within about 30 minutes and that includes all the online/internet connecting of the printer as well. I do find the color cartridge a bit suspect as my older Pixma has separate cartridges for cyan, yellow and so on. I have not yet needed to print in color, but when the printer did it's "thing" for alignment and so on, the only colors that printed were black and blue. Odd. But I'll deal with that at another time. I mostly print in black and white anyway and I did like that the black cartridge is larger. Every great once in awhile I have needed to scan and send a document so having an all-in-one type of printer is important to me. This printer works as I expected it to and was not overly loud or obnoxious to listen to as it printed. For the price and what I was needing, this is a nice little printer.

I had to do a manual wifi setup. I posted the video if anybody needs help. At the end, if it would’ve been the right pssw, obviously it would’ve worked but vid was just to show how to do the manual setup. It’s not hard, only tedious if you have a long wifi password. I can see why people would be annoyed with the setup process or connectivity if they aren’t very tech savvy or need a lot of instruction cause some of the steps are vague, but if you’re used to that then this is simple. Connecting was pretty quick for my phone and pc. I haven't printed photos yet, but paper prints are good quality. Hasn't jammed. Performance is up to my standard, but it does print slightly slow if you’re impatient. I don’t mind it though. In one pic you’ll see the feed tray sticking out. It stays like that but it’s not a problem for me and that little plastic part I guess acts as a cover to protect the paper? Above it is the pull out tray to hold finished papers and stuff. This came with ink. Color in the first one, then black ink (they have little teeth on the top that match up with the compartments), and it keeps itself open for an easy install. I don’t know that it’d be worth the list price of $130 (I’d probably spend a max $100 on it), but the sale price @ $60 is definitely worth it. Hope this helps :P

Reasonable printer for home use, but only fair for pictures. Unfortunately, this product is quite inferior to its prior version. First, the plastic that it is made from is much thinner and the quality seems substandard. It just feels cheap. There are 2 competing paper feed trays where, in my model, the upper empty tray tries to take precedence over the lower full tray. This frequently takes time to convince the machine to take paper from the regular tray. The ink containers are awkward to replace, due to the inability of the top section to fully open, which happens more often than I would like, as they are certainly not cheap and require replacing fairly regularly. The control panel is positioned vertically on the front of the device, which was clumsily designed to force the user to pull the front panel out to a 45° angle to make it easier to read. I am not sure why some engineer thought that was a good idea, when the prior model had the same controls easily accessible on the top of the device. Next, under the continuing heading of frustration, the machine turns itself off after a period of time. This forces you to walk/reach over to the machine, turn it in again and wait while it runs through its startup routines. At the end if the day, once you sort out its idiosyncrasies and accept the delays and workarounds, it does a reasonable job of printing simple home word processing projects. However, if I had not spent my hard earned cash on this and spent quite a while figuring out its peculiarities, I would have relegated this printer to my local dumpster. I am actually looking forward to it giving up the ghost, so I can purchase a better machine! I will try and buy the Cadillac of printers then, because on this occasion I, sadly, bought the Edsel of printers. I would bet that a different engineer is already hard at work on the next iteration. It is to be hoped that he/she ignores the directives from the company marketing VP to make it as cheaply as possible, in order to maximize profits.

I love this printer. You can do so many things. Print photos from your phone or camera. Copy, print, make cards, business cards, collages, posters, calendars, labels, perfect for scrapbooking and printing picture layouts, it can even make stickers. The only negative is that you have to keep buying ink. Otherwise it’s the best. The ink runs out pretty fast, especially since I have been doing a lot of printing. It’s easy to use once you get the app downloaded and connect the printer, and the picture quality (with descent ink) is perfect and you can adjust your settings and images to get the effects you want. I think this printer/copier is a lot of fun to use and my friends are loving their personalized, homemade cards and calendars and photos. I have to update: the only downside is that the ink cartridge refills are very expensive. I have spent more money on ink than I spent on this printer. Next time I will find out what the ink situation is before I purchase another printer.

Honestly I love this printer. For the price I think it works pretty darn good! I love that it has Bluetooth printing settings so I can just print something from my phone by scanning a QR code. The ink is a bit pricey and sometimes hard to find in stock but you can always order online! It has a bottom tray and a rear tray, both work fine. I’ve had this printer for about a year and it’s still doing good!
