Proscan CD Clock Radio with USB Charger Model PCR4896

I've had this unit for 3 years and 8 months. In that time, it has performed spectacularly. Previous to this, I had purchased several bluetooth alarm clocks only to find each time that they were not able to play my music to wake me up (only alarm or radio). Alarm sirens are harsh and radio has too many commercials. In desperation, I finally turned to an older technology, the CD player. This does exactly what I wanted, it wakes me up with my own music. The way to program the unit is not the most intuitive but it's not complicated and once you got it, it becomes easy. I love that it has two alarms, you can have one alarm for each spouse or a backup alarm for yourself. You can set the two alarms to do different things at different volumes, any combination of CD, radio, and alarm-sound. I would never listen to music on this but it's perfectly acceptable for what it needs to do. It sounds exactly how I expected it to, given its size and price. There is distortion at high volumes but you shouldn't be turning this up that loud anyway. It would have been nice to be able to choose which CD track the alarm plays, it always starts on the first track, but that's probably asking for too much. Overall, I'm very happy with this unit and it's still working at 100% after nearly 4 years. I felt it was time for my daughter to have an alarm clock, so I bought her this one. She loved having her favorite CD playing as she slept, so I thought this was the perfect answer. Only, the alarm wouldn’t go off if the CD was playing, which she would play all night and every night. Also, if the CD is playing, the time does not display. There are a couple of other minor complaints, which I can’t think of right now, but the biggest strike against it baffles me. It doesn’t keep accurate time. I will set the time and, two days later, it will be 3-5 minutes behind. So, I ask you, what good is an alarm clock CD player if the alarm won’t sound when the CD is playing and you can’t even rely on it to keep the correct time? (I gave it 1-star because it seems to be pretty sturdy.)

OK, I didnt give up, as i wanted this thing to work, and now it works and it is what i wanted for alarm-clock exactly :) Time will show how reliable it is. The links given in other reviews didnt work for me, but i found the manual and discovered that only 1 most important page was missing (It was downloading for ages, so i copied it and pasted below in my review) Here it goes, the missing page of the manual: "Clock Setting The clock can be only set while the unit is in standby mode 1. While the unit is in standby mode, press the TIME_SET button into clock setting. The LED display will start flashing, press REV/DOWN or FF/UP to select 12h display or 24h display. Confirm your setting by press TIME_SET again 2. While the unit is in standby mode, press and hold the TIME_SET button for 2-3 seconds, the hours will start flashing, press REV/DOWN or FF/UP to set the current hour, press the TIME_SET button to confirm the setting, then the minutes will start flashing, press REV/DOWN or FF/UP to set the current minutes, press the TIME_SET again to confirm all setting. The time is now set Alarm Setting 1. While the unit is in standby mode, press ALARM1/2 to open and close the alarm function 2. While the unit is in standby mode, press and hold ALARM1/2 for 2-3 seconds, the alarm hour will start flashing, press REW/TUN- or FF/TUN+ to set your desired hour, press the ALARM 1/2 again, then the alarm minutes will start flashing, press REW/TUN- or FF/TUN+ to set your desired minutes, press the ALARM 1/2 again to set alarm mode, you can press REW/TUN- or FF/TUN+ to set alarm buzzer or alarm radio or alarm CD, press the ALARM 1/2 to confirm the setting 3. When the current time is same as the alarm set time, ALARM 1/2 will start flashing, the alarm will be activated (the alarm will be closed 1 hour later if without any operation). Press SNOOZE button into sleep mode, the alarm will activated again 9 minutes later, press any buttons (except the SNOOZE button) to close the alarm today Remark: If can’t read the CD information, the alarm CD will change to alarm buzzer automatic Sleep function Auto power-off function When the unit is powered on, press SLEEP button to set the sleep time to “90-60-30-15-OFF”, the unit will power off then USB Charging mobile Battery Please be noted that unit only go with USB charge while Stand-By mode , Not CD playing mode. 1. You get what you pay for. Compared to my old Sony I don't like it at all, but if it can play my cds I'm ok. Reception for radio is poor to fair. I must pull out the manual every time I need to change a function. I know this takes time for an old dog. I'd probably not buy again. I accidentally ordered two, must have hit the buy button twice, and husband who is more inept than I am made me take it back. So now when the first one dies I have a spare. Sad.

From all the reviews I read, I thought, well this will probably be a cheap one. Well I have to say I love it. The instructions were all there even setting of the alarms and CD. Nothing missing! The radio is very good, much better than the clock radio I did have. The CD player is the best for its size. I thought that it would be very poor sound but it is really pretty good. I love the way you can set the CD player to wake you up in the morning. I recorded a mix of my favorite songs and it plays CD-Rs just fine. The light from the time is just right for sleeping and I have no problem seeing it from across the room at any light. Much better than the old one that lighted up the room to much at night. The USP charging is just right for my Kindle, I don't have to get out of bed to connect it to charging. The only thing now is to see how long it last, at the price I worry it will fall apart soon down the road. Right now all I have is all plus for it, time will tell.

I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this Sylvania Alarm Clock/CD Player turned out to be especially after reading some reviews. I went ahead and ordered it because I needed an extra unit in case the one I had (different brand) ever stopped working. It is getting harder and harder to find a clock radio that gives you the option to wake up to a CD instead of an annoying buzzer or a radio station airing a commercial at 5 am! It's a very nice looking unit - exactly as pictured here on Amazon. AND it does play CD-R's that I've made with Windows Media Player; one thing the old one was hit and miss at doing. Yeah!!!!!!!! I do have to agree with some of the other reviewers that it is a "little" difficult to get everything set up the first time. My old clock radio/CD player was almost as bad so I had a little previous experience. What I found is that you have to work fast in choosing your options. I put the instructions right in front of the radio, plugged it in, and started with step one. Right away, I had to choose between 12th and 24th? I didn't have a clue why I would choose 24th. So of course I hesitated past the allotted 3 or so seconds, and had to start over on that option. Decided to go with 12th and everything works great. It must have taken about 15 min. to get everything set up. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 just because it was time consuming getting it set up. I would still recommend it to anyone who is thinking about purchasing it; just work fast pushing those buttons!!!!!!! I would purchase it again. Update 12/2/18: Well after 3+ years of using this product, I've reduced my overall rating to 3 stars. I have better insight now than shortly after purchasing it. It doesn't retain the alarm setting if the power goes out; the backup battery is just for the time. So if the electricity goes out during the night, you might oversleep! Next, it is a real PAIN to set the alarm - too many buttons to push to set to wake up to a CD which is why I purchased it in the first place! I have to get the instructions out and then am not sure it is set right. Here lately the buzzer goes off instead of the CD playing - finally got that fixed yesterday for now. (Until the power goes off again!) Now the volume is way down as the CD alarm comes on; when you push the button to increase the volume it just shuts the CD off! Oh for a return to old fashioned technology where you just turned a knob!!!!!!!!!!

Man—I am SO disappointed. I looked and shopped and read reviews. I got one for *each* of my twins. This clock was supposed to be “sylvania” branded. And after a short time of use, the clock is malfunctioning. I can’t teach my kid to “not come out of their room until 6:30” if they can’t read the time. Very frustrating to invest in this product and have it fall apart so quickly.

This isn't a product many places carry anymore. We looked all over the place but could not find one that was the right size and had a CD player included. This was a great find. It works perfectly, and it's small enough not to take up a lot of space on the bedside table. The directions included could have been written more clearly. We relied on past knowledge of similar products to figure things out, and once we did, it was easy to use.

The 24hr time option is an excellent feature especially for those who don't work 9 to 5. At certain times of the year, 7am and 7pm can look about the same. The wake to CD option is also a great feature. If you have trouble getting up, put in a CD with something loud like Crazy Train. That'll get you up no problem. The USB charging port does what it's supposed to. It's at the back of the unit so in my case I just strung a USB extension cord out on the dresser. Works like a charm. The display has 2 brightness settings and in my case I require a totally dark room. The lower setting is just right to be able to read the time while not being overly bright.

Bought this to replace similar radio. Works fine, good sound. Found the alarm complicated to set. Also time was difficult to read at night without my glasses. Sold it to a young fellow at work and he just loves it!
