Small knife, built like tank, sharp as razor!
I have 3 of these Tuff Lite knives. 2 are straight edge, 1 is serrated. They are the ultimate box openers. They are small to carry and I see them as an EDC for cutting rope, cardboard, bra straps free to apply an AED and perform CPR, or they can be nasty in CQB like a Clinch Pick. For their low price, get a few and keep them in several places

Small overall size but great in hand, Excellent for most cutting needs
Pro's: The steel used is a well known, easy to sharpen, dependable type (AUS8A); it takes a great edge as well. The spine maintains its full 1/8" thickness for 1-7/8" of the 2-1/4" of the blade's overall length. The Wharncliff blade shape and 2" cutting edge length are simply excellent for the majority of everyday cutting tasks (opening bags, boxes, blister packs; cutting rope, cord, cardboard; peeling back and scraping up tape). Despite its modest size, the knife locks very well into my large hands; the overall open shape provides finger holds and conforms to the hand, providing a secure and focused grip for cutting. The oval cutout provides easy one-hand opening in either hand. The lanyard hole is an elongated oval, ample in size for Paracord. Concerns: For some, Cold Steel's ultra-strong TRIAD lock may be difficult to press fully to open the lock. Also, on mine, I noted a sharpness to the oval cutout thumbhole only on the right side, which would be a problem for opening one-handed with the left hand, but easily resolved with a typical small diamond-rod sharpener. Bottom Line: Great value for a combo working cutting tool / everyday pocket knife with a lock that will not fail you and a blade material and design that will get the job done.

Very good as EDC "utility knife", but edge is too fragile
I used to carry a BuckLite, which I loved in every respect, except for the shape of the blade. I realized that 95% of the time I used my knife for opening boxes or cutting cardboard, and the BuckLite blade was pretty bad for that task. I basically needed a utility knife. After trying the folding utility knives, which cut great but were horrible (too bulky) for EDC, I tried the Gerber E.A.B. Lite, which uses a heavy duty utility knife blade. The Gerber was very compact, and the utility blade was great, but the ergonomics are terrible. Opening and closing the knife was tedious, and did not have much to hold onto when cutting. When I saw the Cold Steel Tuff Lite, I thought it looked like a great EDC knife with a blade that would work like a utility knife. Overall, it works very well for that purpose, but it has two minor issues and one significant issue. 1. Minor: As other reviewers have noted, the pocket clip is not very easy to use. It is fairly stiff, which along with the shape, requires either very stiff pants pocket, or require me to use one hand to hold the pocket fabric while the other pushes the knife on to the pocket. I've bent the end of the clip upwards to try and make it easier to pocket. 2. Minor: When folded, the Tuff Lite is relatively "wide", from the top of the closed blade to the back of the handle--almost 1 3/4". When carried in my pocket, it gets in the way. 3. Significant: While the blade is razor sharp (as others have noted), the very shallow angle of the hone and the relatively thin edge makes it extremely weak / fragile. I tried to gently pry some soft plastic, which bent the tip of the blade edge. After that, I only used it for basic cutting--opening boxes, etc. After a few weeks, I noticed the edge of the blade was covered with visible nicks. I don't know how I damaged the blade--my only guess is that I might have cut a zip tie at most. Anyway, this blade is so fragile that it isn't suitable for anything more than paper, packing tape, and perhaps cardboard. Anything harder will nick the blade. I just sharpened it with my Lansky stone set. Eyeballing the blade vs. the Lansky sharpener angles, it looks like the edge of the blade is 17 degrees or shallower. This explains why it is so sharp out of the box, and why it is damaged so easily. 17 degrees is just too shallow for me for an EDC--it just doesn't hold up. I sharpened it using the 20 degree setting on the Lansky, which I've found to be the minimum for holding an edge. Hopefully the edge holds up better at 20 degrees. But the edge of the blade is still relatively thin, so I'll still be careful with what I cut. UPDATE Feb 2015: (Updated from 3 stars to 4 stars) After carrying this knife daily and using it regularly, I am more comfortable with it and really like it. The bend in the pocket clip helped, making it easier to clip on my pocket. The 20 degree angle hone has worked well and the blade has held its edge better while still being incredibly sharp. I love the shape of the blade--the flat point works great for opening boxes, packaging, and cutting cardboard boxes. I am more careful with it than my BuckLite, but I really like the Cold Steel Tuff Lite.

This knife earned a 6 STAR and im picky with my knifes!
First, this knife build is shockingly superior to my all metal small knife, so sad when i got it because it was cheaper in cost and built twice as strong. The overall grip in your hand will leave you breathless in pure joy, it just feels excellent! The weight is incredibly light and i cannot help but to carry this knife everyday, where my other very closely related all metal knife is left at home, again, so sad that a knife at the price point has a quality of a 200.00 or higher cost. The handle is of a special plastic type with a sure grip with no give into weakness. I have used this two inch blade knife for nearly everything cutting packing tapes to boxes and it only gets sharper! When you open the knife with one hand, yes its easy to do safely it has a loud commanding snap that will surely get you noticed should you need to get that point across, atleast until they see the two inch blade and cannot stop laughing like i did and do-hehe. The quality is excellent in every category and i pushed the knife to what i though was its limit without any failures at all. I would NEVER had suspected that a two inch blade would be so overwhelmingly great like this knife with a box type blade or razor blade which is strong. Just be careful this blade is no joke should you ever make a mistake-ouccccch! On the other hand i would feel the pain that if needed for self protection it might not end anything instantly but it will present a serious stay away from you point! The clip is great for right handers like me. A knife is only as good as the one you carry and this one will be with you everyday until you pass it to your children when they grow up, its that good. This knife is legal to carry in all US states including California and NY as the blade is only two inches and thats where size does make an impact legally! You will not be disappointed I know, I am VERY picky!

Outstanding Piece of Kit
This knife is solid, no loose pins anywhere. The Sheepsfoot blade was super sharp out of the box, and after heavy use the Aus8 steel easily sharpens to a great edge. For a work knife from the Farm to performing Electricians duties, this is perfect. Has the Left/Right pocket clip, and sits deep in the pocket. Very happy with the brown color, scale design, and how smooth it opens one handed. It's built like a tank, so putting torque on the blade for a deep cut is not a problem. Definitely super happy with this purchase.

Extra strong build, great quality control, best utility knife of 24.
Toughest knife out of a 2 dozen collection. This tough lite by Cold Steel is the best built knife of the whole collection including Bucks, Kershaws and Gerbers. Excellent quality control. All screws were snug. Clip is very stout. You won't loose it out of your pocket if you use the clip. No blade play. Blade is a bit stiff but that is a plus because the tuff lite is a utility knife, not a figit or fast deploy. The triad lock is stronger than the back lock, frame lock or button lock. It is stiff to operate but that just speaks to its exceeding strength. This Cold Steel tuff light is my favorite of 24 other excellent knives and I hartily recommend it for use in challenging conditions.

A Glorified Box Cutter
As most reviews of this knife are overall positive and what has been said about it I find true I only have my few cents to toss in. I purchased this knife over a year ago (2017) and have used it on an off for that time. Here is what I have found: Pros: Small enough to be a large pocket knife Sheep's foot blade lends itself to cutting Easy one handed opening. Superior lockup with the Triad Lock. Cold Steel comes with great customer service. (had to send it in for a resharpening due to blade chipping on the first day of use, Cold Steel accepted my knife without question and gave it a regrind, which reduced further blade problems) Is very comfortable in the hand. With a regrind, the blade is less likely to chip. Blade is easy to sharpen and keeps a good edge. Cons: The blade grind/material chips and nicks easily (Chipped the first day cutting thick cardboard boxes). Is rather wide when closed The clip is very strong with little give making it kind of hard to clip to pants with thicker pockets. Only offers a tip down carry position. The blade is really only good for cutting and slicing, not piercing. I love CS knives, but this one disappointed me over all and I hardly carry it any more. It has been relegated to my tool box were I use it to cut boxes and other light cutting tasks. In short it has become a glorified box cutter.
